Welcome to the wonderful world of boat ownership. We love our boat as it lets us entertain, ski, wakeboard, and get to places WITH a cooler of beer we wouldn't be able to get to otherwise. You'll have a blast!

I see you have an OMC drive. I'm assuming it's not the king cobra either but just the cobra model. I too have this outdrive on my boat and they are very prone to going bad. I don't know how much you know about them but read this guy's page...

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/

He is pretty much the master of the OMC outdrive. What I would suggest is that you replace your shift cable (the one from the carb to the outdrive) immediately and get it out of the way. If yours is red (red sheath) it's been replaced at some point but the cable has probably become stiff again. I have installed and set this cable up. It's pretty tricky to understand the reading but it goes quite in depth about how to set it up. I even had to order a spring scale to measure the cable drag. It's necessary and now that I have it setup correctly, the boat shifts like butter compared to when I first bought it.

Another thing I would do immediately is replaced the water pump in the outdrive and the housing. It's cheap insurance. If you have any questions on that outdrive, I've split the cases on them multiple times and have become familar with the engines as well.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Another good place for OMC advice is www.sterndrive.com Go to the OMC forum located in the upper left corner. I have also ordered parts from www.ebasicpower.com and http://sterndrive.info/ Ebasic had a decent price on the shift cable from what I recall.

I did reread up earlier and I see you said Old OMC with Electric tilt. That is probably the 800 series outdrive. That shift crap doesn't apply to that model. Is the outdrive white? If so, it's probably the 800.
