Turfing the sides of a SJ

Just wondering, how do you guys go about doing this? i know on my SN it is kind of a two tiered ledge, so i wasnt sure.

I think there are some pics in the ski buildups and my ski forums, but would have to dig around just like you.

One tip when you're looking for pics, on the forum page that lists the threads, click on the attachment paperclip for a thread, that will open a window listing all the attachments in the thread, and you can click on each one to see it instead of having to dig through the thread to find them. Works very well for large threads.

Really its very easy. When you go to do it here is a tip, you will probably have to glue two pieces together. When you do, cut both pieces you are joining together at a 45* angle directly in the center of the diamond (if you have diamond turf). It looks alot better instead of just butting them together.
Also you will just cut off the excess at a 45* angle as well. I hope the pictures help.

Or just do a strip on the top of the rail where you need it. I would not turf the rails again on my ski.

or is that an old vs. new pic?

PS: if you have so much extra hanging over like in mikes pics, its it better to cut at an angle on the side wall, or wrapp it 100% up and underneeth the bottom of teh rail?

Cut it at a 45, and beat the crap out of it with a rubber mallet and let the contact cement set for at least 24 hours. It will last longer than usual that way. Also, use the molded type instead of the cut type, it lasts longer too.

I cut it off about 1" pass the bolt on the corner of the nose cover.
Definatelly cut it off. Don't wrap it under.

heh, any pics of the turfed rails on a square?

i didnt know about the picture attachment thing Jett, thanks for the tip, ill use it.

I'm still wondering the best way to tackle the double-decker square rails.

The only tip on paint is don't spend allot of green on the paint it will just get
messed up in a year time.

If I were to do it again I would spray bomb my ski and save the money for HP.

We will be at winters tonight!

Also, after you cut the turf at a 45 degree angle, get a block sander and sand the turf at a 45 degree angle as well.
