how many of these 1200 wdk are out there and winning world 1 titles year after year ? who has run 87 octane in a 1200 and can testify to the engine life span .

Haha, agreed, and you are opening a can of worms there.
My friend has a bored/ported/etc 7 hundred something, it has 155psi and he has to run higher octane.

He said since his cylinders were so thin it ran hotter and the timing. He did run supreme, then had deto so he mixes av and supreme and the motor has been running for a long time.

Because cranking compression is not a true indication of running dynamic compression. The pipe design/amount of water into the stinger/other factors determine that, then toss in your octane/timing/jetting/rpms/hull drag/etc and you'll see if you're detonating or not. There is a lot to it other than just cranking compression/type of gas.

For those of us NOT competing I take it safely mod'n the stock engine is the best bet for reliable system... all these after market engines seem to require a lot of expensive gas, upkeep and know how... not something most recreational riders are that deep into.
