SJ Will Not Start

I went to put my SJ in the water about 10mins and it would not start. I push the start button and nothing happens. It is like the lanyard is not on. The ski ran great last weekend at Lake Norman. Maybe something came loose on the trailer ride home. Any ideas?

Battery is good, voltage and connection. I just got the start stop switch open but I don't know which wires to check.

What goes bad in the start stop switch? I looked at it and it was all dry and looked very rugged.

What is the cap that screws on to the front of the electronics box? It says fuse on it but I did not see a fuse behind it. There was water behind it though. I am guessing that is not good considering it has seal.

The brown and red wires are for the start switch. Disconnect them just outside the ebox (white connector). Check resistance between the two wires (switch) and press the start button. You should get less than 5 Ohms resistance.

yea i had this problem, it turned out to be corrosion in the connector for the red/white or black/white, i forget which, but it was for the start switch n lanyard switch, we just pulled them apart, and re-connected. THese are inside the hull, they are connected to electrical box.

Jump the start/stop switch connector near the electrical box to see if the problem is above or below that connection. I think it's a brown wire and a white wire. If it turns over, obviously it's with the on/off switch. If it doesn't, the problem lies in the box.

My guess would be that particular connection is a little wet. When you reconnect it, spray it down with some silicone lube.

I had the same problem with my blue SuperJet but it was a loose connection in the box. Props to Gil for fixing it in Cullman.

Keep me/us posted.

I checked the resistance like Matt suggested and I think we can rule out the switch. It is less the 0.5 ohms with start button pushed.

I am going to go jump the connector now.

Does anyone know where the fuse is?

Shonuff,
I think you sold me a bum ski. First I find out that this particular SJ will not do barrel rolls(It has to be the ski because my skills are up to par), and now this happens.

The fuse is under that cap you pulled, its in there as long as shonuff didnt remove it for some reason. On mine its tucked in there pretty good,my first thought was there wasnt anything in there.

Do you hear any noise inside the electrical box when you push the start button?

Measure the voltage between the red wire and ground and the brown wire and ground (start switch harness, on the ebox side). One of them (RED) should be ~12VDC.

Well I pulled the e-box and flipped it over. There were 4 screws missing along the bottom of it and the seal was not in place. I took the rest of the screws out and opened it up. The box was half full of water. The fuse was not in the hole but it was good. I hope everything will be ok when it dries. Anyone think my ski is screwed?

I would suspect a failing relay. If you take a big screw driver blade and short between the two large red wires on the relay the starter should crank the engine. If so then the starter is good and the relay is probably bad. If no crank then the starter needs rebuilding or you have a bad wire from the relay to the starter.

This is what you get for doing fountains.
Yup, that and buying a ski from a guy that would leave out 4 screws.

Time to seal it up with silicone after I make a trip the industrial bolt supply place. Or would Lowe's have these stainless sheet metal screws?
