hey guys some of u may remember i bought a running SJ a month ago..

well i started it when i bought it , but got hit with work travels till this week.

now i cant start it..

heres whats happening and what ive done, ive replace the plugs, checked to make sure they spark. the engine turns over like it wants to start but not getting that final kick. ive tried to switch the fuel on to reserve to see if it was a fuel line problem..

i did a compression check when i bought it and they were ok ?

any suggestions..im just starting to get myself into learning how to wrench so if possible explain anything a 5 year old would understand ande ive attached an engine pic.

my only other thoughts, is could bad gas prevent it from starting ?

First, pull the plugs, put them into the plug boots, have them rest on the head, and crank. You should see spark.
If you do....
Try putting some fresh premix gas directly into the carb throats.
If it starts, you need to clean your carbs and/or replace your gas.

Unhook the stop button first, it's the connector in the right rear corner with black and white wires in it. Those are notorious for going bad.

Next, make sure you're getting fuel into the carbs. Cover the air intake on the flame arrestor completely and crank it for a couple of seconds, then uncover it. Blocking the intake completely will draw a great vacuum in the carbs and pull gas through the lines/pump even if the pump isn't working.

ive pulled the plugs and rest them on head, and saw spark from both of them. if i put fresh gas into the carbs throat ( u mean where the sparkplugs go) and about how much should i pour ?

Yup...about a shotglass.

now thats easy to understand !

haha
thanks, ill give it a shot tonite...

complelty unrelated question, i was told by the prior owner that he always used a 40-1 mix ratio but everywhere i see for yammy is either a 25-1 or 50-1

and most SJ are 50-1, anyone got any idea y he would use a 40-1 ratio.

think i should stick with it or change to 50?

Is that cooling set up correctly for a single setup?

Should it not be:

Inlet -> bottom exhaust manifold
Head -> bottom of head pipe
Top of head pipe -> stinger and tee'd out pisser.

:dunno:

Not saying it does not work, just the water routed differently than I have seen before.
