Weird day at the lake...

Ok, so the lake I ride at is a state park in Ohio...most of the time
nothing but bass boats, maybe a ski boat or two, and a couch or two.
I'm the ONLY standup ski around....occasionally I will see another one,
but not very often....been this way for years.

TODAY, I go to the lake, and the place is deserted. Too hot for fishermen,
and I went around 3:00pm, so most people were probably still at work and
hadn't brought out the ski boats and couches yet.

The only other people at the ramp are some guys with a Kawi 650 and a Kawi 550.
So, with my two skis, we have 4 standups.

Then, ANOTHER guy on a 550 shows up (completely unrelated to the other group).
Standups are the MAJORITY of boats on the lake for about an hour, then a fishing
tournament gets started and about 40 bass boats all arrive at once.

I just thought that was the weirdest thing for that many standups to be there all
at once. I'm not used to that. Maybe standups ARE making a comeback.

I dont know but that sounds kind of funny. Did you see if they ride their a lot?

The lake I go to, its usually just me and my brother with a stand up. Only once I saw someone else on a SN 650 and it looked like their 1st time for most of the people riding it. Usually its full of fishers, skiers and couchs.

Yeah that sounds like the lake I ride on. I am the only Stand up 99% of the time. There are 2 other 650SXs on the lake that are out about once a year.

And....I made myself a set of hoodstraps for the new Superjet today, so I got a little crazy at the lake and tried some rolls and such. I didn't really want to do that until I had hoodstraps in place.

MUCH easier to stab and roll than the Kawi, I thought. This Superjet only has a stock 701 in it, and i could roll it just as easy as I can my Kawi (with a pipe, larger carb, etc).

I have all the hull goodies I need for now (footholds, scupper, hoodstraps, shortened pole w/ X-metal steering....Worx 201 on it's way)....now I can't wait to get some real BRAAAAAAAAAAAAP in this ski. :Banane01:

One day last summer, I was out on the lake with my dad. I had a SJ, he has a SXR. I saw like 5 other SXRs and 2 old couches. Pretty cool.

i know it was weird...last weekend at the lake i was railing the shoreline, chasing my g/f around (she was on the fx1) and all of a sudden i look up and there was some kid riding down the lake on a 650..i havent seen a standup there in probally 10 years...that kid just rode by but then a few minutes later another 650 shows up out of no where...it was funny we didnt even say hi to eachother or anything but we were just dicing ot up in the cove for about 10 minutes before we split...the kid was trying so hard on that 650 to keep it from sliding out....i was gonna let him ride my sj but he never stopped and split after awhile....

Your Dad rides, that's cool. I am also a Dad and have been riding since 1988.
How old is he and how long has he been riding? Sometimes I think I'm the only 40ish year old rider out there.

He bought a new Kawi 440 or 550 along with a used one in the early 80s. He rode those up until 1993 when he bought the 650 SJ. He pumped that up and seized it in like 1998 or so. Then none of our family rode until 2005. I learned to ride the SJ and my dad bought a new 06 SXR. During the summer we ride a couple times a week. He will be 47 this year, so he has been riding about 25 years.

How can they be making a comeback? They don't even make those things any more.

also... I would love to be at a lake at the start of a bass tourney... just to see all those rednecks in their sparkly Vmax powered boats doing mach 6 to get to their fishin' spots.

I like those days, I saw a 650sx with a guy riding on his knees the last time I was at my local lake, I had to pull the ski out of the water and head home, or I woudl have talked to him.

Cool thing, between Sjaholic and and me, we have several standups, and 3 ( THREE) Fx-1s in the same Cove on Beaver Lake, AR.

That is EXACTLY how it was....I didn't get out in time to beat the rush, so I had to wait until they all put their boats in before I could take mine out.

So I was pulling my skis out when they gave the GO signal and I got to
witness the mayhem.

Talking about weird day on the lake.....well weird day on the river yesterday for me. Had to dock on the beach because their was a broken day boat at the one and only dock. Then after 10 minutes of riding, I was waved by a stranded "seadoo" boat and had to pull him all the way to the marina. (approx. 1 km)
Felt kinda weird but then again, I met alot of nice people.
