XL-760 Strange dual 44's

Hi,
I bought a pair of OEM 44's from an XL 760 few months ago...
My problem is the low speed adjuster...
It's different from all the other OEM 44's...
Just take a look at the pictures

One is 0.5mm (silver one form the strange 44)
One is 0.7mm (Gold standard adjuster that everyone get on his carbs)

I never saw that before... Does anybody got the base setting for the adjusters ??

Here is the reference on the carbs :
8
9 7

65V
11

Thanks,

Seb

That is a regular **oem** adjuster, they are fine thread with a step on them.

You are talking about Mikuni carbs bought aftermarket, they have the bottom screws. oem means from Yamaha or whichever manufacturer. If you look at the low/transition circuit holes inside the carb, you'll notice they are different also, in number and size.

But these carbs were taken off from an XL760 with stock setup : 115 low 130/132.5 high 1.5 needle with 65g spring.

Do you have an idea of "1 turn" main setting with this silver screw (5-6 turns ??)

Yep, those are NOT a matched set... one is OEM & one is aftermarket. Dont try to run them together, it wont work... sorry.

The picture show one screw from one of my buckshots and the other is one of the XL 760 pair...
Both XL 760 44's have the silver low speed adjuster (they are the same).
The gold one is just shown to see the difference.

Are you sure they're OEM carbs?

Are the fuel nipples solid brass fittings that can be removed?

According to your "reference numbers" the one marked 65V is an OEM 760 Yam mikuni 44. the one marked 8 9 7 is aftermarket... plain and simple, thats what the numbers mean...

Are those the JSS billet mixture screw knobs?

In the first picture in this thread there is a photo of the stainless steel mixture screw with a crossbar that you say are OEM. My Yamaha 44s have the stainless steel low speed adjusters but I have no crossbar just a screw slot with a knurled outer edge. Is this adjuster from a late model set of Yamaha 44s or can you purchase this type of adjuster somewhere?

Hi,
On both carbs, the reference is (in the ref square on the bas of the carbs) :

8
9 7
65V
11

And yes they the fuel nipples are solid brass fittings that can be removed.
And the fuel pumps cover have one horizontal (standard signal fitting) and the other a brass vertical fitting.

For that, I'm sure they are "OEM" carbs.

Let me know how to set these non standard screws ;)

Yes and no, they are from mcmaster.com, the same place JSS got his from. I actually liked the ones I installed better because they had a line on the end and the outside edge. Looks good doesn't it?

Anyone can put them on, just a little patience and a Dremel/RTX.

From what I've been told, that means they are NOT OEM carbs. :dunno:

Lets put it this way ,the stock settings for the low speed adjusters are so far off to start with that I have no idea why you would want them.I usually end up turning the lows out 1 to 1 1/2 turns from the stock settings to get the low speed bog out and set up the units where they will actually start without spinning the engine for minutes at a time.I would set the lows at about 2 turns out and see how that works for you ,as always some fine tuning will get it just purrfect.

I calculate with the differences between the two adjusters...
The equivalence fro 1 turn out of the brass adjuster is 6 turns out on the silver one...

No, it's not. Go with 1 turn as a starting point, and tune from there.

HA,HA, Listen up guys!
There's reasons I don't use the stock junk OEM 44mm carbs off stock ski's! Use Aftermarket carbs only! Stock carbs are meant for stock ski's...Not hi-performance motor rippin freestyle horsepower!:cool2:
