I've been jetskiing for years and have accomplished a good amount of tricks. The next step/challenge for me is the Aerial barrel roll. Was wondering are foot holds absolutely neccesary to pull off this trick? Are guys barrel rollin without foot holds, since I don't have them? Note- I jetski on Lake St. Clair, Michigan so I'll be using boat wake or medium wave chop. Thanks!

the only person ive seen doing rolls is bruce from pismo an thats in the surf!he uses a limiting rope on the handle pole! if money is a issue buy some foot strapes but foot holds if you can!!!! stop wasting time an effort an put something on that ski!!!you will just get upset an give up or hurt yourself!!!

It can be done, but you really need straps or holds........ for flatwater, footholds are the better choice, in the surf you are not putting as much strain on your feet to hold on......

Sweet. I knew if I mentioned Lake St. Clair I'd get a local rider to respond.
Have you been out yet and where do you usually ride? It's a huge lake!

yea i was just gonna cut the foam to my likeing and glass over em...just make sure you dont cut too deep on the exhaust side...im not gonna do that on my square cause im afraid of how wet the foam will be when i cut into it....im gonna try to mount the strap inside the notch so my foot will be in the same place as footwellsbut it will be in a strap...no more shoes for me!!

I've only done them in the surf, but I've never had foot holds or straps and my feet never seemed to want to come out of the tray. That said, I just put some ho' made foot holds in my new ski, but haven't rolled with them yet to see if it makes a difference??

No one has mentioned this yet, but most will agree....a helmet is just as essential as footholds if you are going to learn to roll.

You can pop an eardrum if you land wrong, and my head has bounced off
my ski more than a few times.

MY brother and buddies have been out already. I have not considering my ski is still in paint right now. :frown: We usually ride in Muskamoot bay and the channels. Or in the St. Clair river.
