head gasket or exhuast gasket leak?

so this boat runs perfect on the trailer, good spark, good compression.

and in the water it runs good for about 45 seconds, then gets doggy.

pulled the rear plug, and its milky.
it will start and run in the water, but I do beleive the PTO cylinder has some water intrusion.

would I suspect head gasket or the exhuast manifold gasket first?

bone stock 701, stock head, stock pipe.

OK.

got it apart this afternoon, head gasket seems to be intact, but is pretty thin between the 2 cylinders.

also, BOTH cylinders have water in them now.

rockin!

Ill try a new gasket and try it again.

BUt wondering if a bad head gasket could let water into BOTH cylinders?
the metal rings around the combustion chambers look solid, the reddish brown stuff all around the water passages is pretty weak/thin in some spots , its the original head gasket since 1995, I do not beleive its EVER been apart.

ideas?

pics of the head gasket/ and cylinder.

I did wipe out the milky water from the cylinders and then sprayed my super secret lube in there.

LBE,

How would I do that?

Im not sure I have a straight edge I trust for the 9 or 10 inches that is across there.

ive got a few other head options here, it looks difficult to clean the gasket off though!

While the head is off you may want to make sure it isn't warped.

Yeah, that gasket is toast. I would replace and test it out, you can see some of the sealing surface is gone in your last pic and that is moast likely your problem right there. if your the mecanic props to you, you never learn by paying someone elce to do the work. Other than mecanics are expensive. :woot:

I dont have any plate glass that large.

in the past when I worked at a fab shop, I just fly cut them on a bridgeport to clean them up, we had flat granite stone there too to check for warpage on airplane parts.

but NOW, im working in my garage with a couple of beers, a broken hammer, and a flashlight.

so how do I check the head for warpage given what Ive got?

do you have a file and some emery cloth hiding behind a beer or broken hammer. Or as you said, your tools.
