look for aftermarket parts. Bigger carb, aftermarket head, stock pipe is ok,aftermarket exhaust manifold, rideplate and scoop grate. Check compression both cylinders. These machines are cheep and good intro to the standup (fun) side of PWC. Stock machine running should cost 5-800? max. depending on condition. W/ aftermarket parts maybe up to 1K?

If it has a remote fuel pump, safe bet to guess that its the stock carb. If the fuel pump is on the carb, its an aftermarket carb. Which is good, because the stocker is a 28!

Make sure to have it start it for you, show him the cash, then tell him you want to test drive it before you load it up...

Unless you don't know how to ride one in which case it's probably better to just buy it and save yourself the embarrassment.

Welcome to the cool side.

:haha:

Definetly make sure you do a compression test, and like he said, take it for a ride first to make sure it runs good.

I will stand by my previous comment. If you don't know how to ride, how is running in a straight line and falling when you try to turn going to tell you anything?

:drive:

might as well
then after you buy it you can laugh at him because of his ********ty riding abilities

Thanks guys, I have ridden a little before on my cousin's 650 sx last year. Just might be a little cold to lake test it this time of year in wisconsin. I will check compression, and start it up and run it, and as far as i know it has a differnet impeller and ride plate and that is it. And i thought i read somewhere that the 1991's came stock with a 38mm carb? or is that wrong.

A 550 reed motor I bought I started and it ran, thought sweet, until I water tested it... It wouldn't go past half throttle... I was so bummed... It turned out to be the pulser coil, but the moral of the story is, you should test drive it, or have him test run it... Just get it out into the water because your not going to be garage riding it only are ya?

Had I tested that motor, I could have talked the guy down more...

If your worried about falling down, just stay on your knees and tell the guy you don't want to get wet...

Yes the 91 should have a 38mm carb so thats a better start than an older 650sx.

Even if you just ride on your knees you have to take it for a ride. Just bundle up and make it a quick ride back and forth to make sure you dont fall.
