magnum pump question

just a quick one guys but im not sure there are too many with experience to tell me...
would a magnum pump make a difference on a ski that hooks up well with a stock pump?
i rode someones straight after he put his on and the difference was great but is it for when you are having hookup difficulties or just something you put on to enhance your engines power?
cheers

I'll probably get in trouble with the bandwagon committee.....

I ran a 144 mag pump with some swirl impeller for one weekend. (All flat river)
Hookup was marginally better, but my typical riding conditions are not a good gauge for that.
Acceleration was a tiny bit better than my Solas Concord 13/16 I had at the time. Considering my swirl hits better than the concord did, it would about on par with that.
I sold the pump shortly after.

I would have liked to have kept such a popular part, but to be honest: I didn't see $500 in improvement over a stock pump, for my setup and typical riding conditions.

I had one and I thought the hook up was too good. When you let off the throttle it would almost throw you over the bars. It was harder to slide the back end around also.

I am a terrible rider so take it from where it's coming from.

What kind of motor mods you have? a mag works best with a lot of power not stock power. it actually may bog it down some. Have you tried a pump stuffer and mag prop. that is a lot lighter than a mag pump.

I don't have one, but I know in the surf they hook up in the white wash, where a stock one will cavitate. Probably good for race conditions, choppy stirred up water. For flatwater or freestyle I don't think it would be worth it IMO.

ok thanks for the advise, i like the thing where the ski stops and starts suddenly, i rode antburgesses world finals ski and loved it, so hard to handle but i would love the time to get used to it
i run a 760,girdled head, ported cylinders and cases, bored stock carbs, exhaust matched b pipe(mod chamber), 650 crank and soon to have a light flywheel and msd enhancer
i might have forgotten some mods
from what i have ridden they give great results but those motors were a bit more powerful than mine, but mine has got a hell of a lot of pull in it
