I done that quick weight saving mod the next day after I bought my 01 SJ. And in 6 years I only had one water line pop off that was after I reinstalled the motor..... I forgot a zip tie so it was my own fault.

I would go with a carbon fiber ride plate those aluminum plates weigh about six pounds and the CF's are a little over one pound.

The rest of the weight could be lost;
Lose the fire extinguisher.
Port the cylinder and cases.
Install an aluminum flywheel.
Lose the factory exhaust and install a B-Pipe
Lose the fuel selector reserve valve and lines
Don't run a full tank of gas.
Take a good crap before you ride.

Strip off Gel coat and use automotive paint. Gel coat adds no strength, it only cracks. You would be suprised how thick the gel coat is. Not sure the weight differance, but it is significant!

I run a stocker - light!

Don't run a full tank of gas.

It starts out full, but gets towards empty quick.

Just food for thought; Be carefull where you cut weight, you don't want to compromise strength and reliability. I guess thats obvious but I wouldn't trade hose clams for zip ties, but I'm also not as concerned about weight as some.


Get a new throtle cable, when you have a very "loose" cable, it feels like an extra 10 hp! try it and see.:biggthumpup:

I don't know....stock rideplate is pretty light already.

Yes stock plates are very light, probably very close to the weight of a composite plate...... save you $$$...... but yes my protec plate is almost 3lbs heavier then a stocker.....

I saved 4lbs dry with the cart tank

about 4lbs dry with XMW Waterbox

and about 3lbs by using the XMW front exhaust only..... pulling the stock rear exhaust out..... I put my scupper there.

My WD hood is about 13lbs..... not sure on stocker weight.

5lb battery

Kevlar reinforced tray with no foam?????.......hmmmmmmm......

stock handle pole...... lightest on the market.


.......... hmmmmm maybe a total loss and Trinity Hood will come next!

I like to be realistic and practical at the same time. I would think to myself, what am I trying to accomplish by saving weight? I challenge you to ask yourself the same. Are you in search of barrel rolls? A back flip? Bragging rights? A different looking ski? What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Look at Ross Champion, he just placed first in the IFWA Portugal Tour on a stock 61x motor. Do you think he cares about having the lightest boat? I doubt it. By removing hose clamps, changing out the battery, etc, etc, etc, you're going to save what? 10 lbs? 15 lbs? You're better off going on a diet or running less gas. In my opinion, you're wasting time trying to save a very small amount of weight when you could be enjoying yourself by riding your ski.

Ive thrown roles on my boat, and Ive thrown roles on Sluts boat...... big difference!

Like Marsh is talkin...... I probably saved 2 times the weight of these people that are buying 4-6k aftermarket hulls...... how does that make me so stupid? :banghead:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that weight doesn't matter, I'm just saying, what is your ultimate goal? And is your ultimate goal accomplished without spending a bunch of money and time on unneeded weight savings?

The bolk of my weight consisted of a $30 battery, $35 tank "that I needed", and $350 for a nice waterbox, and front exhaust kit.

Other then that...... A little extra labor doing my reinforcement right...... and using more expensive material...... and doing the unthinkable...... NO FOAM!

My boat has taken a beating so far....
