Yet another one way valve install question..

I am using 2"pvc and a one way from Menards...when I glue the one way to the PVC what should I use? I was planning on just using epoxy resin and just sand and clean all connection points. I also have to glue a PVC 90* onto the tube. I have heard some people say epoxy and some say PVC glue (whatever that is).

I've always used hose clamps for the one-way and pvc cleaner/primer/cement and maybe some 5200 for any adjoining pvc pieces. Then 5200 to the hull and bulkhead.

for PVC to PVC connections, you can skip the cleaner/primer and just use glue... If you want to be a cheap ass... it still works just as good...

EDIT: With Royal flush on these boards, I should just say that isn't fact, its just what I've seen people do, and see results working...

You didnt glue the pvc to one-way connection? I want to make sure this thing is bulletproof and water tight so I dont have to worry about it!!


yes yox my valve is the black rubber one, I plan on using hose clamps but I also wanted to glue it.

My one way is PVC with rubber to screw on the ends to pull it tight and keep water in, However, I'm going to run some 5200 around all the edges of it to make sure it seals up real nice...

The 90 I will be PVC gluing with PVC glue..


EDIT: I should add that nothing is glued yet, this is just what I was planning on doing... and will unless someone can tell me why not too?

You have a different valve than I do, mine does not have compression fittings and is just a slip fit over the PVC with hose clamps. I plan on glueing it clamping it and possibley doubling them up...

Hmm, while it looks cool it doesnt really help me...also my flapper in my valve is stainless steel with a rubber seal.

Mine is a rubber flap with two slabs of formed PVC on it... I should take pictures... but again... the whole lazy thing gets in the way...

Use the right tool for the job. Epoxy resin isnt' the right tool for gluing PVC pipes together, or plumbers would use it. :haha:

Seriously, think about this for a minute. Use PVC GLUE for PVC Pipe.
Where the pipe joins the hull, use epoxy and/or 5200.

For PVC, use the PVC solvent cleaner and PVC specific glue.
It creates a solvent weld between the two pieces of PVC and that is what you want! :biggthumpup:

I have no idea how to work with PVC nor do I know any plumbers...thus I created this thread.

Pretty damn quick. Scuff up both surfaces, wipe clean, use pvc cleaner, pvc primer, pvc cement. On your hose clamps you don't need to glue them but to each his own.

Is that a spring-loaded valve? How much force does that take to open? I've checked one out before and it seems like my bilge pumps would dump water faster than it'd take for that one-way to build up enough pressure to open :bigeyes:

No the valve is not spring loaded, I opted not to get one exactly for the reason you stated.

I'm putting a square together right now. It will not get a one way valve.
IMO, a good hoodseal, modded hood, and good bilge pumps are enough.

if anyone use a home depot valve can they post a pic of which one? they have the tough spring loaded ones, and the rubber flap ones. The rubber flap one looks like it would work awesome, however the flap seems kinda weak, (hinge is about a 1/2 piece of rubber)
