Use a torch to heat around the taper in a circle around the nut. Do this while you have the puller tight and then hit the puller bolt with a metal hammer a couple of times and it should pop off. Dont heat the taper, but instead the flywheel so it expands the taper. It might come off without whacking the puller, so try to tighten it some after you heat it.. Also dont heat it red.. just warm it up some.

Right behind the nut that hold the flywheel on the crankshaft has a slight taper that fits in the conical hole in the flywheel. I dont think you can see it on a parts fiche, but it is there. That taper is what centers the flywheel. There is a key that keeps the flywheel from turning. Do you have any pictures of your flywheel and puller? Are you using a 3 jaw puller or a 2 jaw puller? Are you using three bolts threaded into the holes in the flywheel to pull on?

don't have any pics, but I'm using a 3 bolt puller. I am using 3 bolts threaded into the flywheel to pull on. Unfortunately, I do not have a torch, but I have a heat lamp that gets pretty hot, will that work or will it just heat everything to no avail?

Put the puller on it, lube it good.

Hint, Its usually the force of hitting it the eventually lets it come off, when theyre on that tight.

Yes, a torch is probably necessary in your situation. Another thing that is helpful; an impact wrench. With heat and an impact, that thing should pop right off!

Whats breaking on your puller? If the threads are getting messed up then used some good quality oil.. like 90weight or something. Get the puller tight and hit the part you put the wrench on to tighten it.. hit it directly toward the flywheel not at an angle. The lamp you are talking about might not do it becuase it will heat the whole area and you need to expand the hole in the flywheel. I know lowes or home depot sells a little propane torch deal used for plumbing, but I dont know if it will getit hot enough to do any good. You really need the whack from the hammer to get it off though.

I broke the triangle on one puller & bent all three bolts on the other. You're probably right about the torch, but I have some other business to take care of with the shop in addition to this ski. :sneaky: I hope that the whole x-h2o community will soon seen the fruits of many months of labor. Just stay tuned, I think that you'll like it.:sgrin:

Well I hope they can get it off for you.. when you put it back on dont tighten it as tight as it was.. It wont come off if it is tight, but It will get stuck on there if the nut is overtightend. Now you have us waiting on pins and needles for what you are being secretive about.

Define "stuck." I'm having the same problem on a yamaha and have busted one flywheel puller. Impact wrench wouldn't even take off that bolt. Had to use a breaker bar. It had some kind of dried up goop on the bolt too - maybe red loctite :dunno: I'll try a cheapo torch on the flywheel next...

Heat really is the key, especially with Loctite. It has helped me remove many wrist pins, flywheels, and pesky bolts. There have been many situations where, without heat, I could have never accomplished the job. Also very helpful with the stator mounting screws, as they can strip easily without heat. -Kurt

I dont know a thing about a superjet other than the fact that it has a taper like a kawi. I dont know if they put locktite on them or not, but heating is the best way to go. get lots of pull on it with the puller and then throw some heat around the crank nut and then try to put another turn on the puller. If it wont turn then whack the tip of the puller bolt with a metal hammer. It should pop off with that.
