Save money.
The bottom is the same.

Turning & handling is close to the same. Steering radius on the square isn't quite as good, but that can be fixed.
The handlepole mounting point is different, which also affects handling.

i'm with matt get the square. i always see everyone posting not to get the squares with 650's. but 701 engine parts are so easy to get i don't see why that would hold anyone back. and aren't the 61x and 6m6 cases almost identical? i know they use the same bottom half and the intake looks pretty much identical too even the 650 manifold almost lines up on the 61x cases. so can't you just put a 701 top end on a 650 motor and have the same setup as a 61x?

650 cases have a much smaller reed cage area than a 61x.

you can get X cases for <100 bucks. Pick up someone's stock 701 pistons for chump change, port & bore the 650, and you're on your way to cheap Brapple.

I say a 650 square now is much better than a round later.

I love my little square and the 650 with better compression plus pipe has enough power to start.
As you are having fun riding your square (as opposed to sitting on the beach, getting pi$$ed off and waiting for a round) collect all the parts to build a better motor.

I actually prefer the handling of my square to my friends round.

Romack thanks for the info i was wondering about that. still pretty easy to upgrade the motor though. i would be more concerned about overall condition of the ski rather then if it was a 650 or 701. I rode squares for years before getting a round. But when i got the round i missed my square so now i have both. i don't like the round any better then the square though.

Everyone that has a square secretly wants a round deep down inside. I used to lie to myself about it, than I gave in. Ive got a round hull that needs allot of work, but after its done I plan to sell my sqaure.
If your a kid like me, just start with a sqaure and wait until you can get ahold of a cheap or free round hull.

squares are a pretty good bang for the buck. if you get a 650 they are quite easy to upgrade to the 701 and greater platforms. almost 95% of the stuff is interchangeable. plus you can get another square hull cheap or for free and make it any way you want while still riding your stock square and switch it all over when its ready and have a back up hull.

You can get a square with a 650 then buy a 701 shortblock later for $500 to $600. Sell the 650 shortblock for $300 to $400 on ebay. Electronics and carb will switch over.

I prefer the price of the square. The handling feels pretty much the same to me plus I dont feel as guilty about beating the crap out of it:biggthumpup:
