what should I do with it?

I went to my local fiberglass supplier today to pick up some biax. when I got there they said they were out of what I needed but had some "aged" 1802
they could GIVE me so I said ok. when I got to the loading dock the guy came over with a 253lb roll of 1802 for me:bigeyes: :bigeyes:. so what should I do with it and whats it worh? also is being aged a bad thing?

I would make it a habit of stopping in there once a month to check for finds like the one you got. I'll pay for shipping if you want to get rid of some. I bet you were pretty excited when they gave that to ya.

What is 1802? Google search didn't come up with much for me. It seems to me that if they gave it to you, maybe there is something wrong with it? I would think they know what they are doing, but I have gotten some great stuff for free in my day too!

From a quick look at the USComposites site, they dont have 1802. But it seems that the first 2 numbers would mean that you got an 18oz mat. I think when I did my footholds i used 1208 biaxial which is only a 12oz mat. So it may be a little tougher if your trying to shape it but easy if your just laying it across say the tray.

That is if I am correct in my looking around.

I believe it was contaminated with oil or some kind of chemical and ended up throwing it out.
The moral of the story is to take some of the cloth and lay it up on wax paper to make sure it wets out well.
If it does, you are OK. If it doesnt, throw it away or you will end up doing this!!!! :frown:

Just guessing, but sounds like 18oz 2x2 twil biaxial. I did not know fiberglass had a shelf life, I knew carbon fiber did as per Areo space rquirements anyway.

It's similar to 1208 biaxial but a little heavier. Its still sealed in plastic wrap and was stored in a climate controled wharehouse, and yes they gave it to me for free:woot:. now all I have to do it check it out as soon as I get it up off my garage floor:banghead:

US Composites medium epoxy resin. The glass I bought new laid up and adhered great. I got a sheet of thicker weave material to reinforce my tray from a friend. The stuff would not wet out properly:frown:
It was definitely the cloth as the epoxy and other cloth worked fine.
All we can think it got contaminated with a fine, oily mist or something similar.
