Drilling trim tube

What is the best way to drill the trim tube?
Also I havent really decided what to use for tubing either. I did a search here and PWCt and found plenty on what kind of tubing people like to use, but nothing on the drilling part.

go to home depot or lowes, in the electical section they have drill bits on 1/8" rods about 4' long.......... just drilled my trim tube sunday with it......

Long drill bit or if you are using 1/2" pvc make a foam saw out of the pvc.

Cut 10mm hole at either end in desired place - then use a length of Ali tubing with teeth cut in the end to twist through the foam. Bond in place and trim excess off each end.. Allows for easy replacement of trim cable if required (just pull it out)

We just hammered a drill bit into the tube that came with the pro-tec system, drilled through and the took the bit off. Glue in place, done with that.

How do you accurately plan where its going to come out at the other end though??

i could not find any long bits over 18" or any extension at my lowes or aces so i just bought a bit for 6 bucks and paid about 15 to have a 30" 3/8 rod welded to it......will probably try it out tonight or tomorrow night.

like said before lowes and home depot both sell extension for spade bits

Those long bits are called bellhangers bits that they sell in the electrical section at homedepot. They also sell extensions for them there too. I can stand in the attic and drill all the way through a wall into a crawlspace.

That's a pretty big gamble!... why not drill a whole at each end with a short/normal drill and use the long one to line up the hole through the foam?!

That really wouldn't be any different. its not like you can see through the foam.
These bits are an auger style bit with a pilot screw. Everything in the tray would be running parallel with the bit. Its not going to drill into anything unless it hits it flush. Just Dont hit the back of the midshaft housing and your all good

You can move the bit around while its rotating the other side of the fire wall in the foam until it pops through, then you have a neat job in just the right place - anyway we're splitting hairs here..:biggthumpup:

honestly, if you cannot line a drill bit up and keep it straight, you might not want to be doing the drilling..........here is a hint, pull your elec box out so you can see where to aim.

just drill in the top left corner of the pump and drill straight. then it should pop out right above the left cooling line. thats the fool proof way but routing your trim cable will probably be a pain.

i ran tube from the corner to above my scupper on the left side.
