97 Gp760 250hrs slightly beat up

It runs, it turns, its fun

I know that mods are limited and there is only so much that can be done as far as porposing, top speed ect....


That being said I know from reading other threads that new grate/rideplate/sponsons are a must.....

big question that there seems to be no consensus how much money is worth putting into an engine that not a whole lot more can come out of. Ifeel like i should do a basic rebuild based on hours, but should i be happy with top speed...or try to eak out a little more ie pipe, head, ect.

background i like ridin stand ups more, and will hopefully be switching from a 650sx( for sale) to a square that i will be putting some time in money into...so the gp is my secondary/wifes ski

Buy a '94 square, put the 701 in the GP and put the GP motor in the square.

For couches, it seems to be something like $500 for every 1mph over stock. :thumbsdown: But I do like the GP760, but heard they guzzle gas alot more than a GP800.
Save up for a better standup.

You're wrong. It's simply a 64U motor - a 760. Bolts right into the SJ.

Nothing is worth putting into that GP unless its a bolt-on for handling that can be used in another boat if upgraded. If you want speed, sell the GP 760 now and look for a 1200 (GP or GPR).

You're wrong. It's simply a 64U motor - a 760. Bolts right into the SJ.

and its easier to stick in than an 800.

It's easier (and cheaper IMO) to sell the GP760 and buy a 1997-1999 GP1200. Awesome and fun to ride and jump couch.
The 1997 GP1200 supposedly had some hull cracking problems, but I've never actually seen that in person, although the guys I ride with used to get some huge air on their 1997 GP1200. Our team had about 3-5 of them at different points of time.
The 1998-1999 had reinforced hull. Minor handling mods are a must if you ride in the ocean, likes to swallow stock reeds, that's about it. One of the most reliable, light, high-performance 2-stroke coaches to date.

they have had thier share of cracking problems, i have seen them almost completely split, but if its just a backup/wifey's ski it should be fine. i have the same ski for the same reason, i got a scoop grate on it, thats it. i might put a finger throttle on it, thats it. i wanna keep it reliable, but if you want i'll sell you a pro-tec head for a 760...
