cooling for cold cold water

I never really worried about it much but now with this new engine I dont wanna crack anything. Im running single cooling split to run into a dual plumbed riva freeride pipe, with a stock head as of now. I only have one pisser coming out the bottom of of the stinger on the pipe. What sort of restricting do I need to do if any with this setup. Im going to run the pisser back into the tray were I have a bypass installed for these occasions or when I get a head with two outlets.

I was just wondering the same thing. With my SJ, w/ a b pipe. Is there anything I should do before riding in this 40 degree water, or is letting it warm up before I ride suffient enough?

how cold is your water?
get a valve that you can put in line at the end of the cooling system,(byfore the bypass) this way you can close the valve as needed to keep the water in the motor longer, which will let it heat up. as the water temp in your lake warm's up you can open the valve to adjust to the temp.

whatever the temp is just after its frozen, hah. But mid spring id say mid 40's.

My buddy has a sj with dual cooling and a protec pipe with 2 pissers, anything he should do or the same with the valves and check water temp.

btw, will the water crack anything is that what im worried about or ive heard of somehow frying pistons?? Explain

you need to use valve's to slow down the water exit if your in cold water. if your motor is not up to temp you will run in to big problem's if your riding in super cold water. you will not crack anything, but you can blow up your motor,
dual cooling, do the samething or Y the 2 pisser's together with the valve system.
You need to make sure your pisser water is hot, before you get on it.
can you remember how hot it is in the summer time?
the faster you ride the faster the water exit's and cool your motor down so stay away from wide open run's in freezing water!!!

I think i finally got it. So the water is cold and doesnt allow the cyl to expand with the piston, pistons warms up and cyl doesnt causing the clearance to be too tight and cause scoring on the piston or cyl walls. Is that correct?

Yes. It's apparently pretty rare, especially with cast pistons and the clearances run on Freestyle motors.
It's only a concern until the motor is warmed up to operating temperature. You may still be running it too cold, but you won't seize it after the first few minutes.
I wouldn't bother with dual cooling in water under 65 degrees (I hit water warmer than that maybe twice a year).

someone should come up with a themostat that opens at 120 degrees like in a car and will alway maintain a proper running temperature, that and a wireless electronic tether switch to clip on our vests. If i could invent a couple parts for jetskis i would make those.

Two great inventions but once again, just two more things to go wrong, especially since they are both electronically controlled. So what does 120 feel like on a hand, or can I buy some sort of thermometer. I think ill be fine, as long as it isnt cold and i check periodically. The pisser is going out from the front of my tray over the side so ill be able to reach easily.

in the spring and winter i can keep my hands under the pissers when it idles on the trailer. In the summer it is too hot when warmed up and just idling on the trailer. i have never tested it when actually riding it in the summer vs spring/fall but i imagine that there is some difference in operating temps. it would be nice to have a consistent running temp controled by a thermostat that is still seperate from the pipes water flow.

Whats 2 more valves to put in, just one more thing that i have to tighten every day after riding....oh and i'm pretty sure i can always put my hands under the water from my pissers, i had to in Daytona because i was so cold...lets go iceberg dodgeing
