Square Nose Refresh

I thinned the primer to about the mid point of the range it could be thinned. The primer was easy to work with and had a long work time before it set off and hardened. For the gelcoat I did not do any thinning. It did spray better with the pressure to the gun turned up a little. It sprayed well. You definitely had to be prepared when you started I premeasured out what I planned on spraying so I could quickly just add the mekp stir and load the gun and keep going. This mix cup system worked well for me. One of the three adapters they sell to mount it on the gun worked with the spray gun.

The next step was... You guessed it more sanding. The gelcoat had an orange peel texture to it. I wet sanded everything but the tray starting with 400 grit and progressing up to 1200 grit. I used the yellow sanding block and the sponge pad in the photo below. After sanding I polished it with the two compounds shown then finished it off with the fleetwax. The little polisher from Harbor Freight worked pretty well. It was small enough to get in all the contours on the ski with the polishing compounds.

Turf was next. It was my first time turfing a tray and it looks great it you are looking at it from about 6 ft away! I did the sides first then the bottom. I used cardboard to make templates as best I could then just made it work. In the bottom of the tray I put a layer of underpad in it was the middle thickness stuff from hydro turf. I used an angle grinder with a flap disk to contour the back a little so the stock bumper would still fit over the turf.

Now it was just getting everything put back together. I used the stock side rails. For the WF nose piece I drilled holes and used ss screws on the four corners of it to hold it down. Then took it on its maiden voyage before hauling it 900 miles to Minnesota for the week of the fourth. The ski had no issues the whole week!

Love everything about this ski. What you did to the tray is exactly what I've always wanted to try. Great ski just needs a pipe!

Tell that to my wife! Wish I could find a pipe for about 500 that would be way easier to justify!

I did put a 61x setup in in years ago and has a 9/15 hooker impeller and a 201 intake grate. A pipe would round up the setup nicely.

Looks great! How difficult was it to fit that nose piece on there? I have the same nose piece, in the middle of sanding and prep for paint. Seems to fit pretty well, holding the rubber front bumper thing up to the nose it looks like it might be tough to get them to seat together.

For the nose piece I screwed it down on the four corners with the SS screws and the washer things like what was holding down the stock cover. This kept it heald down tight everywhere. I had the rubber bumper loose to make it easier to get and stay in place while I screwed the cover down.
