Other 1995 750 Stupid Chicken

So despite having (uh let me count) skis in the stable, only keeper couch is the triple B1. Lady asked WHAT DO I RIDE. I dumped her 97 GTI end of last season. I was just tired of moving it around frankly.

I was between 3 options;
1997 Seadoo GSI (low key miss my Kawi 1100SPX ironically bought one to flip after buying this chicken)
A buddy had a teal B2
....superchicken??

Saw one reposted from a guy I vaguely knew, shot him a message he came back with a price I COULD not refuse... or so I thought.
$500

Expectations weren't high for the cost, but knew it was on water last year. He was super transparent about it needing love to his knowledge not a ding on him and it was complete. Stated it needed some hull repairs, exhaust outlet & Bendix.

Alrighty got it home!

1000002958.jpg

Spent some time doing as you do playing with sitting on it with buddies envisioning summer.

Various crap paint repair and glass work in spots.... More to come.

We did a tuning session with a buddies 550SX we had just finished a full rebuild and refresh on and ripped this 650 out.

Bendix & flywheel are gross, motor was seized, easily broke free. Sure it runs great maybe for another project. Also has the late 650 goodies.

1000002978.jpg

Gave a few spots the classic quick polish job to see what we're working with. Came out good.

Next day:
Clean this cow.

1000002990.jpg

Got this disgusting exhaust goop out

Removed all the clapped turf and mat thing

1000002998.jpg

Flooded the hull, wanted to find all the leaks.
This is where we find out what $500 gets you

1000003003.jpg

Found basically 6-7 devastating cracks, 3 of which were splits though the hull and either weeping or maximum drainage. However Very faint drips out of the driveshaft tube despite there probably being 30 gallons+ in the hull. Banking on doghouse is okay, just needs new DS seal (which is pretty ugly)

Sanded them all up

Whelp so here goes my first ever fiberglass job. No idea what I'm doing but I think it all came out decent. Overkill fixed all the cracks... I hope. And did 4 single layer reinforcements. That split down the side of the nose was genuinely one of the most arduous things I've done yet in watercraft.

Used TotalBoat Epoxy Resin Medium, 1708 Cloth

1000003107.jpg
1000003109.jpg
1000003105.jpg

Painted a few sections on the exterior swiftly. Not chasing perfection here maybe one day if we love the thing. Just wanna ride!

Just a stack of Rust-Oleum rattle cans, should probably use a 2K clear but meh.

Nothing crazy but I'm proud of it!

Hope it holds up. Definitely not planning any crazy jumps.

Gonna put 440SX on hold....AGAIN
utilizing that couch 750, gonna do single 44, unsure on pipe at the moment, seadoo waterbox for sure.

Great thread man. It's a valiant effort saving these vintage 2 strokers. Nice job on the fiberglass patches - perfectly functional. Did you use Rustoleum appliance epoxy for rattle can?

I SURE did.

I used the standard white primer
Then the appliance epoxy to match. Then some random duplicolor clear I had laying around

Ripped the ugly turf off the hood lid, gave it a polish. finally got to see it all together get a good luck of it cleaned up.

Installed rad dudes exhaust outlet.
Kind annoying straight up isn't straight up but whatever nobody but me will notice.

1000003117.jpg
1000003116.jpg

Prepped the motor. Really wanna plop it in... But want the hull to cure a little longer and hose it all out. Maybe flood it again.. kinda scared to find out.

1000003118.jpg

Just a couch small pin 750, stock bore
R&d manifold
Single SBN44 off my 701

Should hopefully be good for my purposes here.
Lady and cooler hauler.

CDI has no revlimiter, there's a timing advance in there. I probably should care but really don't for whatever reason.

You might want to consider reinforcing those stringers before you drop that engine in there, most of them are cracked , I know both of mine were .

curious if u ever had an issue with your engine hoist chain spark plug configuration stripping the threads .. ?? I really like the idea for mounting the chain , can u do tripples too ??

I did a layer over the front ones, patched a crack in the rear, and some overlap on both of them with the layer I did back there. I will definitely monitor. Definitely not planning on airing the thing out or riding it too hard, hoping it'll be fine.

I've never had an issue, that hoyer lift has yoinked just about everything that way, kawi triples, yam triples, seadoo 787/951, the smaller 2cyls are a walk in the park. I'd reckon if you had an issue that head is trash anyways.
You'll like this

Yes it will easily do triples, matter of fact that is mostly what I use them on , but I usually use two of them on a triple with a chain in between , it makes it easier to get the engine angle just right .

I probably went overboard on mine but I made a mold out of plywood and plastic sheeting and made stringer covers or caps if you will , then I glued them down to the stringers with epoxy and cabosil.

Carb gaskets came in
1000003169.jpg

Got the hull finally hosed out. Started fitting things. Seadoo waterbox, turfed up

1000003176.jpg

Motor test fit still waiting on a pipe, Amazon late with RTV need wanna get it all bolted up at once with the new carrier.

Throttle cable mated up perfect just modded a 701 plate, just widened it to the Kawi cable.

Have an STS exhaust in the mail. I think it might be in USPS jail sadly. I'm about ready to just forever ban any USPS purchases.

Forward progress

Installed motor, proper torque down with a new center bearing.

1000003232.jpg

Ran fuel lines and installed tank

1000003233.jpg

1000003246.jpg
1000003305.jpg

STS pipe FINALLY came in, starting mocking that up ordered up gaskets and toobin. Raddudes ebox mount & bilge bracket came in. Got those installed.

Broke a footwell drain. Got a buddy to print some of the files I found for random chicken bits. Filament doesn't match as well as I hoped but oh well.

Did a little steering overhaul with some 3d printed parts. See how that holds up, sanded the new bushings a bit to try and get them to slide better. Stiffness wise feels WAY better for now.

1000003309.jpg

Wanna get this on water ASAP!

Got all the wiring squared away, bilge pump, Killswitch, plug wires freshly terminated, mounted the ebox. Just missing battery cables but measured and ordered them up!

Fabrication mess is literally my least favorite thing. But someone had to make some stupid brackets for this pipe. Chopped up a random Kawi couch ride plate I had laying around. Hideous but functional.

1000003346.jpg

Wish I grabbed a pic but routed the waterbox as well with some stainless off of Amazn.

Getting a buddy to tack on a bung for the pipe drain, waiting on pipe gaskets, & battery cables. So close

And here it is!
A video of my first moments with the thing, genuinely 1st time leaving the ramp and some ripping around and laughing like a maniac! Wonderful ski.

So what's next? maybe some more tuning, has a sliiiight hesitation off idle, it's really noticeable out of water, but surprisingly hard to replicate in water.. really just doesn't seem to care. Best I clocked was just under 44mph... no idea what impeller we are working with frankly, felt good though.

Currently with a 701 SBN44
145H
120L
2.0N/S 80g ~25popoff
2.5 LS
1.5 HS
Sure there's some cleanup I can do.. but frankly super excited to just enjoy the thing!
