Yamaha 650 in Cub cadet UTV

I've got a spare yamaha 650 engine and a 2006 cub cadet volunteer side by side that needs an engine. I use the side by side to move jet skis from storage to the lake, so it seems fitting to give it a try. The cub cadet already has a radiator with fan and pump to cool the engine, and has a CVT from engine to transfer case. I will need a crankshaft adapter, modify the exhaust to run dry, and figure out engine mounting.

Anyone lese ever try something crazy like this?

I think I remember someone on the site maybe 5 years or more ago, discussing swapping a Yamaha 701 into a side by side or snowmobile or something (sorry I can't remember exactly what it was). There was a thread about it. I think the original thread started got very defensive and upset some members on here and then never showed up again. Does anyone remember that or might have to link to that thread?

You would be way better off using a snowmobile motor for a bunch of reasons.

But anything is possible if it's what you want to do

One big issue is that the crankshaft and crank bearings of a snowmibile motor are designed to mount a cvt clutch and to handle the belt tension forces. Pwc motors are not. Look at the pto end bearings of any snowmobile motor and they are very beefy. Look at a Kawasaki 650 and it has a dinky little 6206.

Snowmobile motors have water pump built in and appropriately sized water hose fittings for a closed loop cooling system.

Those are the biggest things.
