Have you ever actually used the extinguisher on your ski?

I'm not knocking safety and preparedness. I think it's a good thing to have an extinguisher on your ski somehow, somewhere (in the back of my truck :sneaky: ). But have you ever actually used it on your own ski? The way I see it, the only really flammable part of the ski is in the gas tank. As far as a fire in the engine compartment, it's either go big or go home.

I understand that it's simply a regulation that needs to be followed, and more than likely it will be used on someone else's fire.

Really I'm just curious if anyone has ever popped the hood, grabbed their extinguisher, and put out a fire in their hull.

Just unscrew the top and pull out the rope it has been used dozens of times. The person that needs it has to put it back in when finished. I have 50' in there.

My friend and I almost used ours once, fire on one of the points on the lake I live on(dumbster next to a house under construction). As we were running towards it we found the house's hose and used that instead till the firedepartment arrived to put out what we hadn't.

By law its in there to put out another boat's fire. Marine law requires you to assist another boater in distress.

Be careful about having empty ones. I was stopped once and the water pig not only made sure i had one, but asked to see the gauge to make sure it was still good. It had to be atleast 10-14 years old. I cringed when he looked at the guage and he was like, "ok. that's good." I couldn't believe it still said good. Honestly, I think the gauge is just broken. Lol.

nope, had a 550 in 1985 catch fire.popped the hood and sank it just enough to put fire out.the extinguisher never knew what happened!

I took the gauge apart and pushed the needle to ok then installed a rope.

I had an extinguisher expand in the holder on a kawi 750. I couldn't get it out, but then when I gave it a yank the head broke off and it went everywhere. Turns out I'm allergic to something in that FE, b/c I was all red and itchy for days.

It has always worked for me.

I did put out a fire in the cab of a truck(ash tray) that was on fire at the ramp.It melted the dash and the radioThe guy was a real dick I should have let it burn.
