I opened up the start switch mechanism to check the contacts and a piece of metal fell off or out of the switch mechanism, roughly the size of a half penny, stainless steel, sort of a squared "C" shape.
I can't figure out where it goes to put it back in. Does anybody have a diagram or know what it is from my magnificent description??

It goes just on the inside of the housing hole, just past the knot (or whatever) in the wires, it keeps it from putting too much strain on the wire if its pulled from the outside.

Clear as mud? Hope I helped.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense.
I think I have isolated my problem away from the switch to the connector on the far end of the cable that goes to the electrical box. I will find out for sure tonight, and if it works I am planning on taking my first ride tomorrow :Banane01:

If it dies unexpectedly when riding, or it tries to start and won't "get over the hump", check those internal switches well. Mine was located in the lanyard one, jiggle it and sort of put it on fast (roughly like) and see if it starts then.

The switches are notorious for this. You can get it rebuilt, or just buy new. Or for those who wish, take it off.

Good to know

Thanks again, that is good to know and to be thinking about. This is my first ski - I rode a sit down once about ten years ago. In '05 I bought an old school jet boat and have spent a lot of time fixing stuff and keeping it working - another reason I appreciate any of these kinds of tips! Anyway, I was looking at boat stuff on Craigslist and kept running across PWCs, then found PWCToday.com, and ultimately "got it bad" for a ski. So here I am with a new obsession, and I haven't even had it on the water yet.
