B-Pipe Refinishing, Powder Coat

Specifically my mid pipe, it’s scabby and looks gross. Somehow I managed to remove all 3 stuck screws with patience and multiple heat cycles/penetrating oil. Heated and cooled and hit with penetrating oil a few times and finally each one let go. So lucky! Anyways the mid pipe looks poor and I’m wondering what the best method of recoating or finishing the mid pipe. What do you all think? Start with a wire wheel to remove the paint/crap off it. Then wet sand 400/600/800/1200 followed by some mag polish and a rag. Or get a harbor freight bench buffer and some polishing compound.

Does polished aluminum like this hold up against corrosion very long, in freshwater?

Now that's just dirty QuinC, lol.

But thanks for not making me hunt for a pic of my Ceramic Coated pipe.

To the original OP, my brand new B-Pipe lost it's powder coating within 6 months of salt water use so I wasn't interested in doing it for a second time. I opted to send mine to a place in North Carolina that specializes in Ceramic coating (Jet-Hot, I believe?), and would do it again in a heartbeat. I shipped it in similar condition to yours and it was returned in the above condition with a bill for $175.

Now, you may say that $175 is a lot of money but nearly 8 years later, it pretty much looks the same as it did after the first three rides. And while that is important, the performance gain is the main reason I'd do it again. The pipe retains the heat longer which widens your power band and makes it pull like it had an extra 100cc's!

Is the italicized sentence for real, or are you just being funny?

Real, seat of the pants experience. Guys with much bigger motors have nicknamed my ski "The Beast" for a reason.

There are lot's of little hidden secrets in my setup but the ceramic coating is one of the bigger ones.

Also how do you like that sprayer right before the coupler vs using the headscrews?

Correct.

If you need further convincing, go back and look at all Jr.'s engine pics. Shiny!
I dont, got a quote from them 6 months ago or so, just did not get around to sending it. I was just trying to clarify what you were saying...........
I found with my old race SXR if I could keep the engine bay cooler I got more power out of it.
