Jet skis in the X games?

I can't help but think every time I watch the X games, whether it be summer or winter that freestyle/freeride should be part of the x games. The last I saw about this on the x was from 2006... Well 13 years later and the sport has certainly come a long way. The tricks all the top guys in our sport are throwing now are just as extreme if not more extreme than current tricks being done on dirt bikes and snowmobiles.

Has anyone been pushing for this? It just seems crazy to me that our sport isn't in the X games... I think with the right promoting and what not it can be done. They have added new sports over the years... So why not us?

I most certainly believe that all the pro riders deserve to be recognized on a world wide stage and as well as the businesses who keep this sport moving forward. Also for guys like me who just straight up the love the sport and riding itself, I'd love to see jet skiing on the X games.

Just curious to hear everyone else's thoughts on this! I could also just be clueless and maybe this is already in the works or has been shot down... I have only really been involved in the sport for 3 years now.

I think one of the main reasons it’s not is because it’s not a very marketable sport. This sport takes a tremendous amount of effort and money to be involved in because it’s on the water. That makes it difficult and intimidating for young guys and girls to get involved. When jet skiing becomes more profitable (for businesses) and appreciated is when we will see it in the xgames. But we have all been saying that for years.

I can go pick up a dirt bike for a couple grand or even less. A properly running SJ is far more expensive unfortunately.

We have one man to thank for Jet Skiing being huge in the 80s and early 90s. Bernie Little. He's also half the reason I drank Budweiser when I was 21. I still love that Miss Budweiser Boat!

Standups have survived living off of other's tech(Sitdown, snowmobile, etc) and the few people crazy about standups. Do Yamaha and Kawasaki even have team riders anymore?

now that mobile freestyle jetskiing is a thing it is probably closer to happening. A good start would be getting them on Pastranas show.

Pastrana had some surf riders on a few years ago but it turned into a bit for comedy, it was not played seriously, I dont even think pastrana was there, it was just the fat guy and the mountain bike guy. The riders were not really showcased and it was just a 5 minute bit in nitro circus I think.

The only cool way to do it is big surf. Us jet ski nerds get tired of watching backflips, I can't imagine the general public getting into flatwater comps.

With drones surf might actually have a chance. Its not much of a spectator sport for those not into jetskis, watching tiny dots fly into the air and not be able to see the landings. Drones open up a lot of new PoVs and some big screens with live feeds fix the viewing issues. I do agree you can only watch so many backflips before you get bored, but initially people are very stoked to see them. If i am doing flatwater stuff there are usually at least a few phones out videoing.

That said, after watching your video, I would rather punch myself in the dick till i pass out than watch sitdowns do boner airs off the surf all day.

I 100% agree some flat water routines get very boring.... but that’s been changing for the better over the past few years... there are way more technical tricks now and certain guys throwing double backflips and what not, it’s definitely becoming more exciting.

It would be awesome to see freestyle, freeride, and racing in the xgames as all the other sports don’t have just one contest for each sport.

I still just believe with the right people pushing it that it can most definitely be done.

People do not seem to be board seeing the same big air tricks in MX yet. Might have to do something like a "battle" with two guys out at the same time going trick for trick.

Problem with surf events is "what you gonna do when there is no surf?" Just like Daytona was Friday and Saturday........ Surf was 1'............. With Flat Water, well, its just flat water. But what is different than Bikes or Skateboards on Half Pipes or Pools? Same tricks over and over......... Not much difference. unfortuneatly, our sport is just not mainstream. It cost upwards of 20k to get a competition level ski......... You can go buy a skate board at academy for 79.99 or spend a few hundred on a really good tricked out board. Or 800.00 for a BMX bike..........
