Poor running 61x Coffman sizzler

Hello all,

I just bolted on a coffman sizzler to my bone stock 15' superjet. I opened up the exhaust manifold to match the cylinders, replaced the main from a stock 130 to a 135 and the pilot from a stock 70 to a 75. The high adjustment screw is out 1.5 and the low is 1.

Anyway, it seems pretty good off the line, but beyond that it just doesn't seem to want to run smooth mid range and up. I have tried moving the high speed and low speed screw with very little change.

I'm looking for suggestions. By the way, this ski is on its fourth tank of gas since purchased new.

factory pipe doesn't say to change the low jet but sometimes I've had to too. maybe you didn't need to put in bigger jets and made it worse by doing so. also did you restrict water to the stinger? I've ridden superjets with the sizzler instead of a b pipe and some of them screamed, so the pipe isn't the problem. are you sure the gasket between manifold and cyl isn't leaking?

where do I start......

Did u check the head pipe sprayers are all actually spraying in the Coffman's head pipe ?
Does your Coffman's have 2 or 3 exit water bypass ? 1 or 2 on exhaust manifold side ?
Single cooling I assume how did you route your water lines ?
when u opened the exhaust manifold to match the cylinder did u match the gasket and use 1211 ?
and as buzz said did u restrict 4mm to stinger with a T overboard ?
Is your water bypass ( pisser overboard ) still the rubber oem restricted one ?
please define "does not want to run smooth" ....hesitant at full throttle ? do you have to feather to get up to top speed ?

The Sizzler should NOT be sizzling but get as close as possible to it.
Best run with dual cooling and raised compression that's when this pipe will come awake ...

First off, thank you guy's for responding.

I'm 95% fixed at this point, but I figured I would answer for the next guy.

I left the low at 1 turn out and set the high at about 7/8 out. What a difference! It's alive again and I plan on finishing it off tomorrow with a tachometer.

What a PITA to try and adjust the carbs... between removing the plugs and making a tool to adjust them without removing them I seriously considered a single 44

So I removed this pipe off of my 90' SN with the 6m6. With instructions from coffman the exhaust was a nice upgrade on the 650. Moving forward.... I picked up a practically new 15' that was bone stock and decided that I would bring the 90' back to factory and upgrade the 15'

"Did u check the head pipe sprayers are all actually spraying in the Coffman's head pipe ?"

No, I assumed because I pulled it off a great running 6m6 yesterday.

Does your Coffman's have 2 or 3 exit water bypass ?

One line connects to the underside of the manifold (from pump) another runs from the head to the top of the manifold and one line froms the head pipe to the stinger with a T that leads to a pisser.

"Single cooling I assume how did you route your water lines ?"

Single cooling. See above

"when u opened the exhaust manifold to match the cylinder did u match the gasket and use 1211 ?"

Matched the gasket and used grease, no 1211.

"as buzz said did u restrict 4mm to stinger with a T overboard?"

No restriction, but yes, a T overboard.

"Is your water bypass ( pisser overboard ) still the rubber oem restricted one ?"

No, I pulled the 3/8" aluminum pisser off of my SN.

"does not want to run smooth" ....hesitant at full throttle ? do you have to feather to get up to top speed ?"

Off the line it was fine, much beyond that it was sputtering as it slowly increased RPM. At 3/4 to full throttle it just didn't want to do anything. No feathering of throttle needed, it just felt sluggish regardless of what I tried.
