Total loss ignition question

Stupid question. If a t/l system was ran for a time with a pickup that had a grounding issue, could this cause any damage to the t/l cdi box? Would assume that the pickup would just open circuit and not fry anything. knowledable individuals please help!

Don't know what you mean by grounding issue. If one of the green wires has indeed touched a ground, it might have damaged the electronic control unit. Usually what happens is that one of those wires fractures from vibration very close to the pickup- that would not do anything to the ECU.
Could you describe what did happen?

Well I'm looking at buying a used atp ts2 from a buddy. He said the pickup lost it's ground somehow, wasn't able to pinpoint where. And he then ran another ground wire (assuming from ebox mounting bolt to - battery post, haven't gotten a clear answer there) which made it work, and it was ran that way for a year or so without any real trouble. Always a risk buying used parts just trying to figure out how much of one I'm looking at.

I had assumed we're dealing with a MSD tl. I don't know what kind of pickup ATP tl uses, so my statement above would not apply to you.
The ATP pickup plate is mounted to the crank case, you could ground to a retaining screw.

Im pretty sure ATP TL uses hall sensor, that require ground to operate, with that being said - i donno if it could harm the brain. But email Chris or Lisa at ATP they are very nice to respond.
