Engine shimming...A LOT of shims

I put new cold fusion motor mounts and now I need A LOT f shims to get it right, this picture is with probably 5mm on the left and still need another 5 on the right side

Seems excessive, is this normal to need this many shims? I'm about to put a washer there to make up space so I have enough shims

As long as the couplers are square, don't worry about it.
It got me worried because I bought the ski a while back with a fully carbon reinforced engine bay and a raider motor
The "original" motor mounts I didn't keep for some reason but didn't require many shims, the new ones I need probably close to 5mm on each mount
Thought that was a bit much, I didn't know if maybe the raider bed plate sat lower or the motor mounts I pulled out we're taller and not original to my sj

Your ski might have had Raider ("couch") mounts which are a bit taller and did not need as many shims. Bed plates are the same. 5mm shim pack = no problem
Ok, was getting nervous being so low
Basically I can't push my motor back to start shimming because it will hit the coupler

I need to shim it 4mm on each mount THEN slide it back and then I can start fine tune shimming

This is how much I needed on the front left mount...those homemade shims are almost 3mm thick, all together the front left was about 12.5mm shimmed
Back left was about 9mm
Back right and front right were about 5mm

That's odd... Have those left side mounts collapsed are now shorter than the right side mounts and/or has the 2 mounting holes been drilled oversize on each mount ? Allowing the mount to be pushed away from the bed plate or pulled closer to the bed plate

I would say damaged mounts or someone has done some work to where you mount sits against the hull. Couch mounts would help make up the difference.

As far as shims go you can put up to 5 in a stack is skf spec. That is pretty weird though. Wonder if the bed plate could have an issue?

when I pulled the motor with the old couplers but current mounts it was shimmed with maybe a few 2mm

I needed to pull the motor because the bed plate kept coming loose on the right side

pulled the motor straight out of the hull, did my port work and tightened the bed plate bolts and put my new couplers/midshaft housing on

put motor back in and it was WAY off, that's why I was a little confused on how all of a sudden it could be that far off

I should also say that when the motor is sitting on the mounts with no shims I cannot start each bolt into the mount, I need to lift the motor slightly to start threading then let it down on 2 of the mount bolts

its almost as if the mounts are pushed too far to the outside, but then again they're in the factory spot and no sign of them being pushed out

So your bed plates came loose and rubbed on the cases where they bolt up. Adding extra clearance. Sounds like that's why you need all those shims.

that does make sense except for two things
The bed plate loosened on the right side and I need a lot of shims on the left side, wouldn't I have to raise the right side being that wore down
and two, I don't think it wore down 12.5mm, it didn't even look worn, maybe a few mm max
And also for me to get the couplers lined up, after I added shims I need to pull the exhaust side up so the motor favors the left side if that makes sense, in other words the bolts for the mounts were on the inside of the bed plate hole and the bolts on the right side were on the outside of the bed plate hole, hope that makes sense
