Fractured Displaced Clavicle Daytona 2007

you're one tough S.O.B.! Give a call if you need anything. I think our crew took a good beating. Dan - put up your leg-gina. I would take a pic of my Azz but that wouldn't give an indication of how my tailbone feels.:frown:

Dude I think the leggina might be getting infected. You would think that it wouldn't hurt anymore, but the pain just keeps getting worse. It's like throbbing now. I'm also thinking it might be the cold weather up here(40F:banghead: ) tigheting up my muscles and putting pressure on my shin.:dunno:

I just went to the Orthopedic MD today and he gave me a long speech about displaced clavicle fractures. He started out tell me how close one of the fragments came to possibly injuring my subclavian. Then he tells me that I need to start weaning off the Percoccet that the ER Doctor prescribed and take Aleve or Motrin instead. Even though the bone is more than 2 centimeters apart the doctor tells me that the clavicle and fragments will grow back together because of the abundant blood supply in the area its located and will not need surgery. He said surgery can cause healing problems with the bone and the surrounding tissue areas. Then he tells me that the clavicle support the ER supplied me with should not be used and gives me an arm support instead. After spending about 30 minutes with him he gives me a new prescription of Percoccet 5 and sends me out the door with a bill of close to 700 dollars and tells me to come back for more x-rays in two weeks to see how the bone will be healing.

If I knew this was going to be the case, I would have spent the money on some new jet-ski parts and a few bottles of tequila to kill the pain. :1244:

Great news Chris!:Banane01: :woot: Yeah it kinda sucks that the doctor visit cost you that much, but at least now you know you're gonna be ok and that you don't need surgery.

no kidding... good news Chris! Surgery would have sucked as much as the Dr. bills! Just hope the Dr. is right on your prognosis and all. Go easy on that badboy and stay off it! Wear your damn harness and enjoy sleeping on your back for a while.

PS: If you're still shopping around, FOI= Florida Orthopedic Institute... I had work done by them a few years back. Good stuff man.

Are you sure that wasn't Stoyer all dressed up like a doc and still dizzy from that tumble. if that is the x-ray don't they atleast need to straighten out the bones so they don't aggravate anything else? and symetry dude. is one shoulder gonna be closer than the other. I mean I am glad that you don't have to do alll kinds of other stuff and surgery but is this normal? its not like its a clean break its a mess in there.

I think you need a second opinion- where is Rockstar?

Yeah thats what I was thinking.

Hey Chris what Orthopedic Surgeon did you go see? Were you able to get an appointment with Dr. Hughes? I promise you he is the best in the area and anything he says will definitely be right. If you weren't able to get an appointment I can talk to my Mom for you and I bet she could help you get one. Unfortunately my family has had to use him quite a few times.:banghead:

I went to see Vladimir Alexander MD, a Russian Orthopedics expert. He has a complete building named after him with a bunch other specialist doctors in the same building. He also said that the clavicle was one of the easiest bones to heal in the body and would form a large mass around the broken area. I just hope that his preferred arm sling positions the bone in proper alignment for correct healing to take place.

Do you think I need a second opinion, those x-rays looked pretty scary? :scared:

Hey Dan, I tried to get in with Dr. Hughes but the office said that Dr. Benharrie was the upper torso specialist and wouldn’t be able to see me until the next day.

Well for piece of mind I would probably get a second opinion. I'm not sure how much it would cost though. Pretty much anyone in Dr. Hughes' office is great so if they said to see Dr. Benharrie then I'm sure you would be in good hands.

Like you said those xrays looked pretty scary. I'm not a doctor, but I thought for sure you would need surgery. I would call Orthopedic Specialties and just ask them what it would cost to see a doctor and get a second opinion.

Hey Dan do you need some Percocet for that leg. I'm not going to be using all my pills.

hmmm:sneaky:  No thanks, but I'll let ya know if the pain gets worse. I may just end up going to the doctor if it doesn't get better. You would think the pain would have stopped by now, but it's just getting worse. I really hope its the cold and its not infected.:banghead:

I would def get a second opinion. With a break that bad I have seen people people have to get screws in their collarbone. I broke my collarbone before, but it did not dislocate and my orthopedic doctor told me if it was much worse that i would have needed surgery. Also your doctor was saying about comin back in two weeks to check on it because they heal quick, my collarbone took two months to completely heal to the point where I could do stuff again. I didnt even have a sling i had brace that kind of pulled my shoulders back that held my collarbone in place. So definetly get a second opinoin from someone else because if you dont it could mean trouble down the road.

I broke my clavicle several years ago...got thrown off a horse and down a hill. I was a teenager at the time, and never went to the doctor (still have never had x-rays of it to this day). I told my mom I just sprained it and didn't need to go to the doctor (she always over-reacted about injuries and I hated that). I couldn't raise my left arm and it was pretty painful for a while.

Anyway, it healed up fine and I just have a little bump midway on my clavicle (at the time, it was quite a big bump :) ). They can heal up w/o any problems, but I think mine probably wasn't as bad as yours looks in the x-ray.
