And that sucks for me... So what is the best way to fix it so I do not have to worry about it for the next few years?

Chopped mat has binder in it that won't dissolve with epoxy. You can wet out the mat still, but it is intended to be used with polyester resins. The only thing you would achieve with chopped mat is a big glob of glass and epoxy.

Just to surface seal it, epoxy will work. The problem is that it might not penetrate very deep. Laying over it with glass or carbon will help.
