superjet problems. help please!!

Im really hoping someone on can chime in and tell me answers to these problems.

I bought a superjet about 2 months ago. First Had a problem with it randomly stalling. Pulled start stop button apart n cleaned that. Then found out battery isnt charging and wasnt revving properly. Bought a new coil with lead, new plugs and a battery rectifier. Still not charging so bought a lighting coil. Now i put it all back together. Its charging welll the battery voltage is climbing when running so can only assume its good.

The problem i have now that i need help with is while cranking it trying to start it it wont crank constantly. Holding start button it cranks stop cranks stop crankcrankcrankcrank stop.

When finally getting it started if i rev it it just bogs down doesnt rev up smoothly.

Im really hoping someone on here can help me as im just about ready to give up! :(

I appreciate all the info you can give! Thanks

I should probably also mention that this happens with the hood off in my garage havent even tried to take it to the water yet... also the engine bay was full of black sludgey water which took a while to get out...

Sorry if i sound stupid dont know much about these. First one.. thinking maybe i shoulda stuck to sit downs!

Sorry just tryna give as much info as i can. When started. It spits out heaps of blacks sludge out of the exhaust... took me a long time on the hose at idle to finally clear it all out yesterday.

Started it again today once battery was fully charged to make sure it wasnt cranking weird due to a flat battery and got it started same problem and spat out more black water

Okay so ive still been trying to sort out this problem. I have tried retarding the timing 2mm to see if that helps but still doing the exact same thing.
Took the plugs out. Plenty of spark!
They were covered in oil but while cranking with them out. It would crank fine and constant. None of this stopping n starting cranking like it does with the plugs in.

Sometimes the flywheel woodruff key can sheer and the flywheel rotates on crank snout moving TDC of the flywheel out of time in relation to TDC of the #1 piston. Not saying this is or isn't your issues just pointing it out in case your not aware.

Edit: lol! just realized you had the flywheel off to move the stator so you've already seen the woodruff key

Check cables for corrosion, try a known good battery that has started skis in the past, make sure ground cables are tight, make sure you are getting proper power to the starter, then if you have one, swap out starter.

Try to jump the starter straight off the battery.. If it turns fine then check all your connections to the starter.. Make sure there isn't a rub in the start/stop wiring.. If you don't find anything there try bypassing the s/s switch at the switch.. If it turns over fine then.. Buy a new switch... If it still cranks irregular check your relays... I would resolve the starting issue before the revving issue..

Well after a bit of playing today i put the stator back to dead on the arrow. And then i regapped the spark plugs. They were a bit bigger then supposed to do. And it pretty much got rid of the crank issue. I was cranking for about 15 minutes trying to get it started and just couldnt get it to start. Tried playing with carby screws etc. Was cranking fine. Tipped fuel in carby n still dodnt start so cant be fuel. And it had a really good spark so wasnt to sure? Gave up for the day until i got more info...

If you cranked it for 15 minutes and added fuel through the carb it's most likely flooded and/fouled plugs.. I've never messed with timing on one so i won't chime in there but that could be an issue if you were messing with the stater..

Week spark will spark ok outside the cylinder but not be able to jump the gap with compression pressure present. Sometimes spark is only present momentarily then goes away after seeing it was ok, might have to watch it for a little longer and speaking of compression Have you verified your compression is good so were not chasing a bad hole

Stator was only removed to change lighting coil but now is back in same place as before...

I have not compression tested it. But it was done about 2 months ago showing 150 psi in both
