Two batteries at once?

It's an interesting idea for sure but my OCD says there has to be a simpler way. Relays and switches just add to the potential of things that could go wrong and just add more cost than the solution requires. If you were willing to spend money, an ETX14 (same footprint as the ETX9 but taller) would be a much simpler and cleaner solution.

Why not separate your circuits and run 2 batteries dedicated to individual tasks? Connect one battery solely for the starter (and maybe bilge?.?.?) and then the other for just the ignition?

seems like the best route to go with a light weight hull and big motor. the batt cost is a drop in the bucket,My anti grav 20 cell is hangin in there,Ill be lookin at the earth x next

I like this idea, but it doesn't help if you happen to kill your battery running the TL/motor while getting hit with waves. Depends if the intention of having two batteries is for redundancy/backup or additional capacity. Then again, how much energy does a TL by itself really consume and how difficult is it to keep your battery charged...

At the very least, I'm thinking it's an interesting project to be able to have a "reserve" battery switched up and ready when/if the main fails. Wiring isn't complicated. SPST switch and two SPST waterproof relays. I might try it.

OCD, good idea on the seperate circuits , one Deka 9 would restart the engine easily for 2 tanks surf. How would he connect just the Flame with a positive lead that usually off the solenoid/ relay ?

There is more than enough space to punch a hole in one of the ebox grommets and run a new wire down to the second battery. You would still have to tie the negative post to the engine somehow but that's easy enough.

The more I think about it, I'm right back to his original idea of just running the two in parallel. Sometimes the first idea is in fact the best idea.

I agree. I would say run the two in parallel and call it a day as well. When you think about it, separating the circuits has the potential to lessen riding time over running them parallel. If either dies before the other you are done, and you may still have a running battery.

The earth x battery I would need is like $400. Not happening. Etx 14 not a bad idea when I need another battery but not sure it will fit. May be to tall and hit my hood. I will have to measure. My etx9 works fine at the lake.

you can get by with less than the $400 model and have a whole lot more reserve cap than ext9 or 14. I hear ya though I bought the 20 cell just in case I got water in the motor on the beach
