Not 5k difference. In fact, I have a hard time seeing more than 1-2k MAX in carbon and epoxy in that hull, especially considering that Lightweight buys that stuff in REAL bulk (not 3 yards at time)

Working with carbon and epoxies are much more time consuming. It would say more in the neighborhood of 3K+

Why not try hexcel's carbon and polyester tooling resin.

It's mostly new, with a few used items...

I will be LESS than 12K total when it's all said and done, unless I add more new parts to the list.

My point was that for considerably LESS $$$ I would have two kick arse skis.

And Idok's right---the Wamilton's ski had VERY little time on it when I bought it.

my wammer ski with team scream 5mm motor was built by me for around 14K, mainly because I got a smokin deal on a low,low hour donor ski. So I have a feeling you're not counting the value of your used parts. I would guess that you are pushing $6-6.5 in your motor alone, if you count labor, electrics, carbs,cylinder,cases, crank, head,porting etc.

I have around $17k in my red rev (before 1200cc motor). so they can definatly be built for less than $30lk, by someone shopping parts, using a donor ski, and building it yourself. However if you have someone buy every part new, custom paint it, and assemble it it's going to cost closer to $30 than $12

I think I remember seeing your ski for sale on the wamiltons site for $22k+

I'd sell you a very, very similar ski for $8k, You could have 4 of those for the new price of a eme or waterdawg 1200

pats tube would clear right above that 5200d in battery box with no problem. the reasoning that jeff is giving you behind charging a rude $300 for a TUBE is pure BS. its just a way for him to skip over to lowes and only spend $9 in materials instead of having to do any real work...... just like the chopper gun layup.

What do you guys think a full carbon hull is actually worth, considering of course the price of carbon and epoxies these days?

depends on who is his carbon supplier is, kind of resin he is using and the quantity it is purchased in. Different companies make different resins w/ different properties and that all effects the price. Prepreg carbon is the real expensive stuff and that is not what is being used in that application so the estimate is lower than material used in a carbon prepreg boat or even a fiberglass prereg boat for that matter. The prepreg process is also more labor intensive to lay up than a infussion type set up. Both take allot of time to lay up but w/ prepreg the cloth often times has to be refirgerated, you have the lay up of material in the mold, a core material (which add more cost)......blah blah blah.....depends on your lay up schedule. That in turn is vacume bagged and auto claved for however long, then is cooled. Then the parts have to be prepped for paint (unless you use carbon then it should be just bare).

Different strokes for different folk's :biggthumpup: I think comparing the two hulls is erroneous unless you have been on both.

Not sure if material overlap adding weight is even significant to the total weight of the hull if it is even a factor at all. That is kind of a specific issue that I have no idea on.

No doubt that both process can make light and strong parts if done correctly. Both builder have proved that they can make quality skis'. I say respect them both and move on urr:

have you seen the plumbing in post number one????? im guessing that the ski at WF had the plumbing done the same way. thats just cheapass workmanship. plain and simple. there is no excuse for that other than "you wont see it when it all together.".

if i had to weld up a aluminum tube it would cost more than $300. My labor rate is higher than many would want to pay, that's why I don't build parts. If your asking if I paid or would pay $300 for a pipe, I would not, plastic works just fine. Jeff can charge what ever he wants for custom labor, you can pay it , you can get your own part and have him install it, or you can put in plastic.

You have to remember you can't charge minimum wage for custom work. The time it takes to weld up and fabricate a pipe could be better spent on building a more profitable part. I can guess he's probably not that interested in making exhaust tubes or the price would be different

To anwser your question from page one, the red ski is Jeff's personal boat. All prepreg w/ 5mm stroker lamey pv cyliner, dual 48 Novi's..........all the bells and whistles on race gas.

I'm not hating on the hull, but I DO NOT think the plumbing in that area should be plastic. It's an opinion.

I have looked around a little bit for high-temp ABS piping that Jeff claims he is using and I cannot find it. Standard ABS is rated for 180 degrees, which is higher than I expected, but I can find no pipe manufacturers that carry hi-temp ABS. Now, I might be proven wrong on this but I still think metal is the BEST choice, especially for the exhaust.

The only time I see ABS pipe in my neck of the woods is in a mobile home.

maybe you forgot about the custom machined (in house) billet cylinder,pvs, sleeves, custom designed and machined intake and exhaust manifolds, custom aluminum pump shoe, driveshaft, gas tanks, footholds, hood, billet hood latchings system, handlepole, handlepole bracket,turnplate, motor mount bracket, pipe chamber, hull, rideplate ......all on the same ski all designed and built by the same company.

Show me one more watercraft business of only 2 guys that has built and innovated more custom parts than that.

Go help work on making the ultimate pole pad and watch someone else innovate and build a new stand up.

That really confuses me even more---since he's so good with all the other custom parts, why doesn't he make up some custom METAL tubing, as well. Just doesn't seem right. :dunno:
