This was a complete overhaul, all seals and shaft were in grease. The outer seals get washed and wear much faster than inners do even with water present.

I assemble my engines this way too after a few 4 strokes did not seat the oil control rings, almost dry for me now works great
You realize what happens when you over-generalize, right?
I got this method from another tuner that said allowed him to start tuning right away instead of wasting his time at the track. The only way to prevent damage is by having the rings sealing and high spots worn down. After that its off to the races.

Sorry, cabin fever has really overtaken me this winter. LOL
On a side note I've used Pennzoil synthetic to break in my Ultra 680 motor this winter. Didn't notice any difference. The only reason I went with the synthetic is being that it was actually cheaper than the mineral oil.

That's the pennzoil synthetic blend right ? Their full synthetic is $30 per gallon. Blend would probably be fine for break in, It not rated a 10 for zero wear. Klotz Techniplate full synthetic is rated an 8 for wear so some full synthetics are not rated a 10 like R50 and K2.

The full "synthetic" is about $24 a gallon where I buy it from plus I get a 10% discount. They where trying to get rid of old stock so they had the price marked down to $15.
I had a 1200 virage that had 98 hours on a SBT motor. Used Pennzoil premium all its life including break in. It was running strong the day I sold it.
You guys ever hear of biodiesel being used as a substitute to 2 cycle oil? Going to try a 15/1 ratio in a old chainsaw of mine here in a week or so.

It is apparently a ester based oil? Going to be building my ski to run E-85 ( please let's not get off topic on the e-85 is junk debate)
You can't run a petroleum based oil in E-85 it just doesn't mix at all. But ester based oil well. I'm going to pick up another gallon of e-85 and try it this weekend.

E 85 must be corrosive in carbs, even E10 stains them.
That's controversial using full synthetic during break in so why do it ? I guess no issues doing it that's measurable.

I know this was already kinda debated, but I just got my cylinders back from being bored at php, and zack said it's fine to break a ski in with the same oil and ratio that I'm using originally. Which is amsoil dominator(a synthetic), and a 40 to 1 ratio mix.
