Hi guys, just wondering what oil to put in for the starter gears. Gear oil? I am thinking something thin so the clutch will disengage properly. It is for a 300 sx single cylinder Kawasaki engine.

no, you dont put oil in the starter case. your talking about the case that has the flywheel, stator, and starter gears in it right? if so, NO!! dont dump oil in it! that will screw up ur stator, clean up your flywheel gears and hand grease them! do not, do not, dump oil into that case, the little cap on the top of the stator case is just anj inspection cap, not a oil cap.

No not that case, the 300 single has gears on the pto side
ok, im used to the 440 550 motors. figured the 300 would be related. i thought he meant the case with the flywheel and statorand starter in it. the 750 650 800 400 440 550 900zxi 1100zxi motors are all set up like that, figured the 300 would be the same lol. id still grease them instead of oil, but if you were to put oil in, 10w 40 motor oil or some transmission oil should do it, its just the starter gear.

Well according to e-how or wiki answer it calls for 10w30. Anyone confirm that is what they use.
It going to work good for my kids. I got some white turf and a Yamaha kill switch/tether on the way as well as a oem starter motor. Just going to do a quick steer mod yet and if the 28 mm bn carb is needing a rebuild I may split up a set of 38's and do a carb upgrade. Put a 9lbs Agm battery in it too. It's a nice hull to work on.

Well at the handpole end there appears to be more cable throw then what the bar stop will allow so I am going to move the cable out with an extension. This seems like it will use all the throw of the cable and give a bit more steering down at the nozzle. I may try and move the nozzle cable pivot in a bit until I get the nozzle to get a bit more turn angle. At least until it the flow hits the back of the hull. Not much point in going more.

300sx hulls are actually great hulls, very strong, freestyle worthy when paired with a bigger motor, very stable, carves and performs great, they based the BOB hull off of a 300sx hull, its a great hull. ive been looking for one to put an 800 engine in. no luck yet though

I am having spark issues so if I can get an extra msd tl brain, and one trigger pickup I am going to run a total loss ignition. I will modify both the stator and flywheel. I have a extra msd coil already. If you think the 38 is a good mod I will for sure install one. Why not it is just sitting on a shelf.

I get spark for 2 turns and then no spark. I swapped to a new coil but it was from a newer model and I didn't get any spark at all. So it's either my coil, igniter, or cdi, or stator. Lol. I am thinking total loss is just cheaper at this point.

i hate dealing with spark situations such as what your dealing with lol. Chasing spark is my biggest "pet peve" cant really help ya over the forum, besides ask u if u went through the "spark checklist" lol
-check for loose grounds
-unplug your start stop switch than try cranking, if you get spark, than youre start stop switch may be bad..
-check for loose or dangling connections
-try using di-electric grease on all the stator to coil connections
and when none of that works, lol start buying stuff. theres more things you can do obviously, i dont assume you have a OHM meter? i dont, BUT, if you have a terminal light to check what is getting power and what isnt, or just try figuring out if something went bad, try swapping out one thing at a time, but if youre using a newer coil now, id assume it wouldnt work, but who knows, sounds like a U problem to me lol.

Yeah, I have been through all thing electrical on the ski. I have done everything and more that you described. I have started buying new oem parts as they come up on eBay. I am just thinking how much easier total loss would be than chasing these gremlins. I may just buy a working electrical box and stator off eBay and swap out some parts to figure out the problem. Kawasaki did change things inside the box over the years which is why the newer style coil is not firing a spark at all. I have added ground wires also. No difference on new and old coil.
