Super Jet Another Factory b pipe question

When installing the exhaust manifold on a factory limited b pipe, the two upper center bolts........ you put them in and then install the others and torque them. The upper two center bolts though don't look like they can be tightened. Are they supposed to be?? The washers are just jiggling around. Its close, but I can't tighten them.

Thanks

Would it work to back them out a little and then put some washers/spacers that have been opened so they can slide on. I already have the pipe in the ski.............. I've already had to take it out once to clear space.

You shouldn't have put the pipe in the ski until the manifold is bolted down.
You can half-ass it now or you can do it later. Up to you

get off the computer or phone and it would have been done by now. take a few extra minutes to do things right and be done with it. afro engineering it will only take more time and come back to bite you later. it aint rocket science.

I'll do it. With the way the instructions are written I thought I had it done. Should have made sure first. Oh well, I'll take it out again and do it right

It is a little bit tricky because FPP tells you to use the OEM bolts, but those two must be shortened.

I bought a bolt kit from Jetworks when I got my manifold. The two bolts in question came too long. I cut them and ground the edges. I should have ran a tap over the end of the bolt but I didn't, and damaged my cylinder. It very much disappoints me that a 'kit' came needing obvious modification. It's my fault my thread got damaged, I should have been a bit more meticulous, but I shouldn't have been put in that situation to begin with.

It's weird. My bolt went in fine, come back out half way fine, but doesn't come out all the way. Weird how it galled the threads only partially.

thats what you get for not using anti seize on exhaust bolts.

I did use anti seize, and I use a lot of it. I don't have tap/dies. I just left a nut on the bolt, cut, ground removed nut. This sometimes leaves burrs that can damage aluminum.

If you want to be constructive, you are welcome to buy me a good set of tap/dies.

And for the record, anyone going to suggest buying the $40 set from Harbor Freight, I have them, a lot of the pitches are wrong.

I could spend $100 or so on a good set of taps, but I'd much rather just buy parts that don't need to be cut in the 1st place.

I actually called Factory Pipe and talked to them. They said that the only superjet models they have experienced the bolts being too long in are the 2003s and up. Mine is a 98 and they were for sure too long. Got me. I cut about an 8th off them and they seem fine now. Time to reinstall.............again.
