Super Jet superjet rn running issues

Hello all!

Got some running issues with a superjet, its a 99 rn with a stock 701 engine apart from the protec pipe (mach 1) basicly runs good on trailer with no issues.. get it in the water and well first off its realy boggy off the start then all of a sudden it will clear up and be like a rocket for a while then sometimes will be boggy off the throttle again ect.. its a hard one to explain as its sometimes good then sometimes boggy.. almost like its being starved of fuel, but its so random its hard to work out what it is.. its almost as if something gets blocked up then clears.. when the pipe was fitted i was told by a well known jet ski shop id need to change my jets and springs on the carbs which i did, cant remember which jets i fitted and the springs were the black ones, so far ive tried.. rebuilt both carbs with oem rebuild kits, new fuel lines and inline filter, new fuel tank check valve, tested the resistance on the stator which seems within specs, just done the crank seals as the front was a little leaky, checked everything in the electrics box and all seems realy healthy, tested the start/stop switch and thats good, all other wiring is good and healthy and tested with a multimeter, took off the overheat sensor to test if was that and no diffrent with that off, ive also tried tuning the carbs but with no avil, i have litrally been over everything but with no joy!! could this be due to having the wrong pop off pressure? due to me changing the jets and springs? pop off is one thing i dont realy understand.. has anyone else come across this or a simular problem? anyone with any info/help please let me know!

Many thanks :bananajump:

try a 1.5 n&s and 95 gram spring.

when you have it running on the hose take the flame arrestor off and look down the carbs. I bet your venture is leaking causing the load up. if it is leaking you need to raise your pop off

Thanks for your input 550headache.. had the carbs apart yesterday.. relised i didont infact have the black springs there the 95g dull silver ones :) so i left them in there, but the jets i had been told to use where infact the 135 main.. according to protec i should be running the 130 mains so i have put the 130s back in which were the stock ones.. i think your right about the load up it all makes sence now :) il try getting a water test in at some point and let you know the outcome! thanks for your help

Just seen this post! You are having the exact some issues I have! Have changed out my complete electric box and no difference! Was going to change out my stator too so I pretty much changed out the whole electrics!
I have the same pipe as you but running std carbs and springs! I have however been running it like that for months and it has been fine! Now all of a sudden it seems to have popped up!

Why would the Electrics be the problem Rob? It seems like fuel to me. Have you asked the guys on the PWC forum (I reconise you from there)?

Hello mate you I asked on there but not really had much joy! I have been searching the net for similar problems for a while and I read few people posts on forums and allot of them led to the switch, but does not seem to be anything wrong with mine! Is your name still the same on the pwc forum as on here ??
I originally thought it would be feul when it started so I cleaned out my tank making sure there's no water in there! New feul no joy run a direct line to carbs taking out the chances of issues with the switch! Nothing! Only reason I don't think it's carbs is why is ok for say half hour then it goes funny for a while! Then it's ok again like something is shorting electrical! It also seems to drop to one cylinder every now and again and that makes it seem more electrical than feul!?!?

No im Jason8640 on the other forum, no been on here long but i like it. Have you got a friends ski you can swap carbs with? Have you tried cutting down your HT leads a little? Do you ride in salt water? I've heard of a problem where you get shorts to your head from your HT leads (can see it arching in the dark) when your engine gets covered in salt.

Yeh I Recognise your name now!
yeh it's good on here the other forum is good this is just a nice extension, the amout of skis in America just means there's a lot of action on here some good builds on here.
Anyway I have cut my old leads shorter and tried it again plus I have I have the new coil from the new box in and it's the same. Plus when I was riding it and had the issue I brought it in ran it against a wall and grabbed all up and down the leads with wet hands, nothing unfortuntly I wasn't tossed deep into the water.
And yes I do ride in the sea and sea only.

And unfortunately the only person I ride with has a single carb sn!
Just my luck

Interestingly last time I tried mine I found when it started running bad again I laid it on the side so the rear exit exhaust was out the water and floored it and got up on it that way and it cleared so it seems to clear when the pipes not running in the water
