Other Me again - need an exorcist - waterbox ?

OK, after trying to troubleshoot ongoing problems with my 2000 RN Superjet, I had to pull the motor after the crank let go,( it had a butt load of very hard hours on it, and I was only hoping to get through the summer with it) When I pulled the motor, I discovered a crack running down both sides of the hull. I removed the water box to prep for carbon fiber reinforcement, thats when I found something strange. The waterbox has what I believe is a big clunking piece of metal inside it, as I have never removed this waterbox. is this usual, or did I have something break loose inside of it ? Any help would be awesome! Thanks, Mike

It's a baffle that broke lose. It's not uncommon. Cut it open to fix it or replace it. But don't leave it like that. The lose piece can block the exhaust path.

I believe it was blocking my exhaust, has anyone repaired one of these ? I would guess cut it in half, remove the debris and then weld back together. Will having no baffles effect the performance ? Does anyone have an OEM waterbox for sale ? Thanks, Mike

Cool, did you cut it in half ?
Yes, you have to saw it in half and clean it very well for welding. OEM baffles will (!) break loose eventually, yes, they are needed and welding might be expensive but would repair it for good. Another fix is to buy a Factory Pipe waterbox. It's identical to the OEM, except that it is welded properly. I have not had one fail in 15 years.
