Super Jet handle pole lock issue

I just bought my first SJ, a 93 650 SN, I have been following this forum for a while and am excited to get into this sport. The ski runs great but the handle pole lock that keeps the pole in the up position is broken. Besides being kind of a pain holding the pole up while removing the hood, I am worried the worn down part of the pole could be a weakness because it is close to the pole bracket. Will I need a new handle pole? if not how can I rig up a new locking system? Thanks for the Help!

Square nose pole are really weak and break easy. Just throw in a stiff pole spring and it will keep your pole up most the way. And when your ready buy the hazard bracket and a round nose pole.

Everyone always says this, but I found the opposite to be true. They are plenty strong for yrs of riding, and plenty of tricks. Only downside IMO is the length.

You can bend a nail to be the pole lock if that piece is missing.

Do you have access to epoxy resin?

The orginal 90-93 SN poles would break rather easy (near the top bend). With a little persistence they were originally warrantying them as a manufacturer's defect. I think they may have beefed them up in the later years.
