Super Jet Tray is super waterlogged. Opinions Wanted

Ive had my first sj for 3 years now. Ive rode the piss out of it. Prob 200 hrs on the 650 before I swapped to 701, and 200+++++++++++++ since the 701, who knows really.

Anyways, its pretty damn waterlogged now. Like if you tip it at any sort of angle, it starts coming out the rear bondline a little. Just dripping. Its definitely 30+lbs heavier than it should be.

I ride surf occasioanlly, not with this ski mainly, but i would be nice as a backup surf ski, cause salt water is a bitch.

I dont want to defoam if its not gonna make a gigantic difference. I dont use footholds so there is no benefit there. I can do everything off inertia or using the fire extinguisher holder. I always hear that water is going to get back in there, so you need to insttall drains anyways. The strength benefit is kinda moot IMO, as ive boosted off some big waves and my tray is fine stock.

I want to know what you guys think of taking a long ass bit and drilling into the bottom of the hull almost the full length, on both chines, tipping it straight up for a weekl or so in 100+. amd installing blaster drains? Do you think ill drain alot of water? I dont need it all out of there, just the majority.

Or should I just defoam it. I have the know how, and materials, but thats a lot fo time and work, for something that might not be a huge benefit.

You're never going to get the water out of the urethane by draining it. It doesn't let go of water once logged. Even if you let it sit for a month to drain, and some drips out, the fist time you get it back in the water it's going to fill up in one ride.

Do yourself a favor, defoam, seal, install drains, refoam with EPP or EPS, and call it a day. Your ski 30 pounds lighter will be heavenly.

kawasakis suck
It's probably been waterlogged longer then you think. Defoam, widen the tray and lower the tray. Like stated, 30lbs lighter and a wider lower tray and you'll love it.

Damn, I was hoping for an easy answer too. De-foaming looks like a lot of work. :(

It is a lot of work. I just finished the defoam and EPP laying on one of my skis. I guess the good part is that it is a one time job if you do it right, and you know it will never log again.

Sell it time to get an A/M hull.
Just my opinion, but you could play with that thing and glass and whatever forever and it would still be a SJ.
If you are attached and want to keep it up to you may as well cut it up.

I think im gonna ride it until I dial in my other lake ski, and then Ill gut the tray and defoam it.

Im going to be getting a AM hull next tax season, I almost did his year, but got other things instead

Oh, I wont sell it. Ive only sold one of my sjs, and I regret it still. They arent gonna be around forever, people beat on em, just like I do. Ill keep it and let buddies ride it, or just have it.

Thanks for the input all
