The MSD directions are fairly straight forward. Read them a couple times while looking at the parts and it becomes intuitive. It's scarey that first time, but really after u take ur time and follow the manual, it's easy. Or...have someone wih knowledge walk u through it so u can have hands on knowledge.

:dunce: base curve has nothing to do with setting initial timing and you dont know how to do it. stick to your limited sxr knowledge.

Yes, you are correct I have never dabbled on anything but SXR's ....setting initial timing is actually quite simple? I do not understand why you are making such a big deal out of it

Stick to your limited knowledge of basic middle school grammar :bananapowerslide:

If you know what you want for initial timing, mark your flywheel for that. If you don't, you should find that out first. I then static timed it, slightly advanced, then used the dip switches to retard it to where you want it. Then check it while running with a light and adjust the dip switches as needed.

alright so the total loss i have was already setup but with just a mild 760. should i have to change any of the switches on the brain? anyone know abt what degree i should be with this motor? what other things will i need besides a dial indicator gauge to find tdc

You'll need:
- dial indicator
- digital calipers to measure air gap
- play-doh or clay or wall-tak to simulate air gap
- degree wheel

The rest is just reading the instruction manual. Your dip switch configuration depends on how aggressive you want your curve to be. Call/Pm some reputable builders (jetworks, xmetal, thrust, nuklear, tricky,...) on here and ask for a curve based on what ur gonna run as far as engine, pipe, carbs, fuel, and type of riding. They'll lay it out for you.

It is actually more accurate to use a simple piston stop and split the difference. If you have a dial indicator mark the flywheel .1" either side and split the difference for TDC.
