Freestyle Motor questions!!!!

Im looking for a new power plant, wanting to go 865-900cc (stock stroke or stroker). just looking for opinions on the best way to go! whats the best "bang for your buck"? PHP? DASA? Xscream? ive heard great things about all these motors, and ive ridden an xs900 and a DASA 918(i think that was the displacement) and both motors rip, but im also looking for the best price as well. just give me your .02! :dunno:

... also im buying a setback mag pump, but should i wait for the bigger motor? or should i get it now, and run it with my current 701?

It will all be in a bob GEN 3 BTW.

Thanks for the help!!!! :smashfreakB:

I don't think u can go wrong with any proven builder whether it be Dasa, Xmetal, Jetworks, Thrust Innovations, LPW, PHP...

Bang for the buck depends on how savvy u are as a tuner and being able to set it up. If ur new to that stuff then u better adhere to all the builders recommendations (carbs, ignition, pump, prop...) in order to get the value out of the engine.

Stock strokes are nice but u'll never get the same performance that u get from a stroker. Maintenance is a bit less with the SS engines (in my opinion) than a stroker, but certainly not so much that u'd want to shy away from stroker power.

I really like Jetworks/blackjack performance engines and Art's personal service. That's no knock on the other guys cuz I've owned a 2 Dasa's, a Thrust innovations, and a LPW. I think if u spend the time talking with the builders and really listen u'll find one that makes u feel comfortable with what your wanting.

I'd stay away from stock strokes (particularly the billet ones). I've tried a few and have been impressed with only one. For the money you pay, it's nothing to write home about.
Once you get past the initial increased cost for a stroker crank, the rebuild costs are the same.
Art Gomez of Jetworks has been doing my engines for a few years now and they always kick ass.

Thanks everyone! So I've gathered defiantly go with a stroked crank! Is it ok to stick with 61x cylinders? Or should I go PV?

Also any input on the pump? Should I run a setback mag on my current 701? Or should I wait for the new motor?

1. Figure out what your budget is.
2. Figure out what your goals are.
3. Talk to a few builders about 1 & 2.

Generally speaking, you should budget at least as much for accessories as you budget for the motor itself. I.e., bigger carbs, magnum pump, ignition.
Stock cylinder of aftermarket depends on your budget. Non-PV 61X cylinders can sometimes kick bigger, billet PV cylinders' asses.
And yes, you want a mag pump.

Well my original plan was to go with the jet maniac 781, and at the same time get a 144 SB mag. and probably run stock 38s at first.
