Hey guys, I am looking at buying my first Stand up ski and building one, I was just wondering what your guys thoughts are on what one would be better seeing that i have never had a chance to rider either...

I live in Toronto Canada and i ride on a lake, The lake is for the most part vary flat other the boat wake now and then if there is a storm or a lot of wind the waves can get to about 3 to 4' tall.

I would like to get into free riding and doing tricks like back flips, barrel rolls, subs, just playing around.

I will be calling RRP on Monday but i would like to know what riders think rather then a sales person.

What do you guys think would be the best ski for a beginner to learn to ride on and do tricks would be, and also from any of you guys the build a rickter before is it vary difficult or do you need any special tools to do the work? I'v always wanted to buy a ski but have not ever done so.

Any help or tips you guys would be able to tell me would be amazing, Thanks for your Time

Michael

FS2 is similar to SXR or SJ ride style, awesome for flat and surf. XFS is for flat, if you have skills you can surf ride it. Look at the Rickter site, it goes into this. Check my FR2 build thread for more details and ride report. You cant go wrong either way, it just depends how good of a rider you are now, and how much experience you have installing pump shoe etc unless you are buying complete.

Thanks for the reply, ill be reading your hole build tonight when I get in, as for experience with riding and building a ski.... I have 0 ;(

I have both the xfr and fr2 in the surf the fr2 is More predictable and Easier to ride, If you ride flat water you're better off going with xfr/xfs , The only downfall with the xfs/xfr does not handle well at high speeds, But either way there both great skis

Good advice here. If I were to do it over again I would NOT go the new route, way too much instant depreciation. Some of the used deals I have seen you could completely rebuild the motor to new, replace the normal problem electric parts new, and still have a few thousand left over.
