Tom where they hell have you been, to ride waves you must have a Stupidjet, no footholds, straps are acceptable, 701 engines only, no mag pumps, B pipes are acceptable, aftermarket handlepole will be tolerated, if you are riding a 550 you can do any mods you like, no one notices, no one cares, these are the rules dammit, why can't you just follow the damn rules people ?

Its times like these when I am damn glad I am a flat water rider, no rules apply here, anything goes, its not illegal unless you get caught !

this thread is silly, ski attire and how you should ride. hell if a guy can do the manuever clean I dont give a crap how he is dressed or positions his body. skills are skills. i thought the difference between riders was called STYLE?

then maybe I used the wrong word. maybe I should have said the differences between riders is personal expression. there is no right or wrong, good or bad. only differences. its not a competition, its a session. its you and your ability to achieve personal satisfaction. judging is perspective, riding is introspective.

as i said before im not talking about your average guy im talking about the guys "pushing the sport"..

keep in mind the only reason it went that direction was because zack was feeling left out and needed to add some pics of himself..

what the "pros" do does trickle down to the average guy though..

Compared to the guys that are on the front of the bike on the triple clamp dang near,lapping them. No one is doing it wrong there either? ok well then at least alot better.. Love to see some vid of anyone rippin surf well standing both feet in the rear holds the whole time though,doing anything other than flatwater tricks over the back of the wave....good luck with that

macc is the only guys ive seen that can rail turns standing in the back of the tray but not really surf style..

Depends, is the guy sitting on the back of the seat having fun? That is all that matters........ There is not one of us here making a true living doing this. You are not Bubba (I am gonna crash you) Stewart, Wydopen is not Chad Reed and I am not the Goat. That is my point. What happened to just going out and having fun. Hell, Look at Gil. He would go to a competition ride around for an hour to waiting for the right moment to start and then go out and do his thing....... Yes, He Flopped all over the place, but I guarantee you one thing. He was having more fun doing that than many hear Bitching about how riding in the surf with footholds is so freaking wrong................

But heres the thing, in motox all those guys at the track im talking about sitting at the back of the seat their first few times at the track,DO eventually work their ass to the front of the seat by the next season once they get familiar with the bike and want to get better,faster and progress....they dont tell all the fast guys they refuse to try it cause they are having fun sitting back there getting laped....

nobody at our motox tracks was making a living at it either,they were out to just have......fun.....just sayn

and so you judge them? nice. so by your definition if you dont ride at pro level you are doing it wrong? you can only ever improve your skills by learning from trial and error. so a lot of doing something well comes from learning what not to do. somewhere along the way I think some people have lost their ability to see what others can do and only focus on what they cant do.

why do you care about where someone else places their feet? is it your problem? is it holding you back?

How many races have you signed up for?
How many freestyle comps have you signed up for?

If your racing or competing then yeah, you work to get better, perfect you form, endurance, stance......... Been There, Done That. Had bouys set up in the Boss's Catfish Pond so I could train. (2006). I focused on racing all year (I think I finished 2nd in Stock Class and Limited {on a Stock Ski} in Reg. 7, competed in Freestyle at every race also. You want to know what it all boiled down to. 2006 nationals. I totally sucked racing that weekend. No Sleep due to having to pull an all nighter at work the day before I left for the race. Time for Freestyle........ remember the focus on racing.. I kissed my wifes belly (She was pregnant) and went out and had fun. There were 8 of us. Personally, I think Wasteland had a much better run. But out of 8 of us, there was 2 above me. Ratti and Bogart. Yeah, I got 3rd in the Nation. Am I proud of it, Hell Yes. But what matters most, and I have told many after that. Forget trying to go out and nail your run. forget trying to beat somebody, Just go out and have FUN. (Went in with the same attitude in 2008. Same Result. 3rd.) You do that, then everything else falls into place.

You do not have to have the $25,000.00 Superfreak with a 1200 cc motor (That most cannot even use the power), you do not have to have a RICKTER, or a BOB. Hell, you can have a Stunt Hull. Just go out and have fun.

Tom...read the above post..Its just talk in a forum,take it for what it is,no one is pulling people off their skis and kicking their ass for doing it silly style. what kinda question is that really? To turn it around,why do you care we think its silly stupid to ride surf like that..is our opinion holding you back from being better?

you hit it right on one part,alot of this sport is learning what not to do,much like motox where the price is much higher...it is very much trail and error...if you dont start off in error ...you will have much less trials....

bk...hmmm I kinda get your point,but if its about fun and you dont care if you win and your not really competitive,why bother to compete. you could have the same fun in your local spot,save the travel and stress....Im not competitive at all really..just not my thing..But I do love freerides...cause its the anti competition really...its 10x more relaxing and fun than any ski related competition ive ever been too....but that doesnt explain away the need to progress and be better......Ill leave it alone now ....its gettin redundant
