Super Jet RN bogs and loses power in salt water! Need Help

I have a 2000 RN SJ. Its been running great, no real serious issues until recently. Its not running great in salt water. Last month I took it out in the surf and it ran good for about 10 minutes or so. Then it will bog down, after jumping a few waves or riding the ski hard in the surf. It sounds horrible, like something electrical. The sound is hard to describe but happens every time it looses power. I can pin it and there is no throttle response. However the ski want bog down so bad that it kills the motor, I can idle. After a few seconds of barely pulling the throttle, the ski gets power and runs normal.

Then it will run fine for a few minutes and do it again. I'm running dual bilges and never have this problem in fresh water. I bought a new battery, took it out today in the surf and the same thing happened. It was about 50/50 running good. The issue is coming from the salt water or maybe something is loose and has play. I jump wakes on the lake and its fine. So leaning more towards a salt water issue.

I have a stock motor, bpipe, and xmetal waterbox.

Any Advice?

agree.......check your plug wires. running it in the garage with the door closed so that it is dark inside.....spray the wires with salt water (windex type bottle works well), look for random sparks throughout the wire. Found my issue this way. Swapped out coils and all is good.

Yep plug wires, throw blanket over ski and spray saltwater on wires while it's running and watch a Christmas tree light up.

cool. Thanks guys. That makes sense. I was thinking it was something electrical and it kinda acts like 1 or both of the cylinders aren't firing correctly. I will check the plug wires this afternoon and update the thread.

close up your plug gap smaller than you need to and it will run better.

An MSD works wonders in the salt. The stronger spark energy will overcome old or weak coil wires.

Sounds like everyone seems to agree that it's your cdi/ ignition coil... Order a new one and ill throw it on for you ASAP. We need it fixed since its back to the surf this weekend!

Ps Id like to see this Christmas tree tho!

Friends ski did the same thing. Only his boots would vibrate off the plug, he tried crimping the connector a little but it still happened. He ended up zip tying the boot to the porcelain to hold it down. Not the best method, or the correct way, but it works.

I have them mad caps with the locking clips on I can't think it would be them however at this stage I will try anything I will zip tie them on tonight! With my fingers crossed ever soo tightly!
