Freestyle Hull Modification Basics

Location

Hi All-

I am seeking some education. I have been following some build threads, have been doing research and using the search function, but I wanted to post this to clear up a few questions I still have that relate to the basics of building a flat-water freestyle hull.

I know there is some give-ins that are pretty much mandatory, like having a lightweight hull or foot holes, but with those aside, what other hull features do you all consider a necessity for flat-water freestyle?

The purpose of this thread is to list and uncover things I might otherwise overlook and regret it. For example, a rockered nose… is this a mandatory feature, and if so what does it provide? I seek a list of key features that is considered standard and would be required in a successful flat-water hull design.

The basics of “What” and “Why” would greatly help me understand these features so that I can start this project off in the right direction.

Thank you in advance.

Perhaps my question was too vague since no one responded...

I am sure a lot of mods are rider preference, but having never built/modded a freestyle ski, I just wanted to understand the basics of hull modification. So to narrow my questions down, let's say I have an SXR hull (I am using this as an example because I know the SJ is more for freestyle) and would probably require more mods.... what would you do to it?

So you do or don't have an SXR hull?

Are you looking to build something from scratch? In that case start printing off a bunch of photos and do your best to copy what is popular.

Buy gas and oil. Spend your free time riding and enjoying it. You won't be wasting your time and money on hacking it up because that's what you read on the internet.

Add some mods as you go.

Quick steer the nozzle, move out the steering cable and a d cut stock ride plate. You won't have any downtime and will be able to ride as much as you can. Then practice practice practice. Master that hull, then worry about adding rocker, hull shortening and other things that's done to stock hulls

What about a trim nozzle conversion? How much does the trim really help rotate the ski in a backflip? and how about how much it helps to lift the ski out of the water with smaller wake..
