Other Pull starting a jet ski

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried pull starting a jet ski. It would be difficult to do because the hood and whatnot, but I'm surprised I've never heard of anyone doing it with all the starter issues that people have.

People have starter issues because they buy chitty used stuff and terrible batteries.

you have to get it moving pretty good first,..... you can acomplish this with a small waterfall. then put it into gear and make sure the ignition is on or you will have to push it back to the top of the waterfall if it fails to start

The best way to get it moving would be out of a plane

Just wrap a rope around the driveshaft......pull really hard......and whatever you do, don't let go of the rope.lol

People would learn real fast to disable their kill switch and turn up the idle.

Better yet, drill a hole through your driveshaft, tie a rope through it, then wrap it and pull it. Afterwards, please post pics of the x-rays.

Haha, it would never be something you would ever use in any practical sense to go riding I'm guessing. (I have and never will try this btw) But I could see some red neck with a pos 440 with a crap starter trying this in his garage just to try and see if the ski will even start.

People do this all the time on snow machines. They wrap a rope around the primary clutch, which is fixed on the end of the crank, so it would be the equivalent of wrapping a rope around a jet ski coupler or drive shaft. And it works fine. Every new snowmachine comes with the rope and clip you need to do this, all neatly packed in a tool kit that comes with the sled. Here's a vid of a guy doing it on a 800cc 150 hp motor

A snowmobile clutch has a much bigger diameter then a coupler or shaft. You'd never get enough speed trying to pull start one. And if you did, it'd probably wrap right back around and snap your wrist.
