Stock Flame Arrestors vs Aftermarket Flame Arrestors

So I ordered a new factory limited b-pipe today from Factory Pipe :woot: and they told me that I should really put aftermarket flame arrestors on the ski. They said it would make a huge improvement and compliment the pipe very well.

I was originally planning on keeping the stock flame arrestor to help prevent water ingestion.

Currently I do most of my riding in freshwater lakes and I occasionally make trips back to Florida and ride salt. Fountains and stuff like that have kind of gotten old so I really don't take on that much water. Now I understand riding in the surf is a whole different thing, but if I occasionally ride in the surf can I use aftermarket flame arrestors?

Most guys that use stock flame arrestors have motors with a lot more power than mine. Being that all I will have is a bpipe and head will aftermarket flame arrestors show a noticeable power gain? I assume they will, I mean they require rejetting.

I'm looking for cheap power and I'm in the process of sealing my stock hood and I don't take on that much water anyways.

What do you all think?

my kawi came with a broken up factory box and the f/a adapter on top of carb was broken. I installed an R&D racing f/a with hot products covers on them to help keep water out. I have yet to ingest water and I learned to ride on this setup so it was upsidedown a lot.
powerwise, it didnt seem to make much difference and I left the jets alone. i just richened it up a hair and it runs fine.

Stick with the stock set up and you will be glad you did. I run a ported limited on two skis and run stock on both. If you are doing freestyle you need to keep the water out. Covers also breakdown over time and screw the carb mixture up stay away from them also and save the cash for more Brap!

nothing wrong with stock. As was pointed out to me... think about it as just a matter of letting air in. Stock is fine for surf or fresh. I can't see aftermarket making that much noticable diff in perfomance.

Someone has to ask, it might as well be me.

How much did you end up paying for the pipe new ?

I paid 670 for it with the elbow hose. The place that advertised it for 609 was out of them and wouldn't have them for a while and I needed one ASAP so I spent a little more. Oh well.

Reed,

Where were those stock flame arrestors on your blaster when we needed them for TS Alberto. Wait maybe I should say where were the drain plugs when we needed them.:cool2:

hehe.... nope- PROKS on the B1 (along with drain plugs...just not during hurricanes:biggrin: )! I'm still in the market for another stock F/A like the one Ollie scored and very nicely fashioned up for the 96 SJ. Wanna trade your stocker huh?

Ironically the only people that can get limited b pipes from factory pipe are private buyers. dealers are going to have to wait a little while. heck I might have gotten the last one they have right now. dealers should be getting some more by mid november I think.

uh, there are not true dealers anymore..........

you dont need the elbow, you are better off just cutting the stock hose like the directions will say..........

Actually thats what FP says, but I've heard that there are a few retailers that actually get a break on pipes when they purchase a bunch of them. Who knows. :dunno:

I would cut the hose, but if for some reason I need to sell the ski and I part out the pipe then I want to be able to put the stock exhaust back on. To me $45 is worth not having to cut then replace the very expensive stock hose.

I have a stock air box on my limited setup like Mark said. It is all you need. I love to play under water. I might be underwater more than on top. But I removed both of the stock screen packs and used a piece of aluminum house screen to cover the end of the box and snapped the 90 degree boot back on the end of it. It looks 100% stock. I don't know why you really need the screen except for maybe keeping a fish out of the carb if your under water as long as Skywalker's ski was.

Get some Blue Tau Ceti arrestors to match the ski. The new jets Factory pipe includes with the pipe will want them.

Congrats on the pipe. You will just LOVE that fresh new coupler.

Yeah, I think Cindy is her name. Not a personable individual and customer service skills worse than Best Buy.
