Other Pole limiting strap

I have a SN with a hazard pole conversion bracket to fit the RN pole.. but the bumper isnt on the pole so it can extend all the way forward and cause damage to the hull or pole, so im wondering if any of you have made your own limiting strap/line or have any ideas on how to do it.

i looked for the straps from ATP and they are around $60-$70 and that seems like a bit much to spend on some rope and bungee. Any ideas or examples of what you've done will be appreciated!

thanks!

post up some pics of the homemade setups.. curious to see how they turned out
and where do you mount it on the pole? i already have a spot on the hull to hook it on, just not sure where a bungee and the other half that would connect to the pole would go

LOL

Limiting ropes are super easy to make. There are probably 100 or so different designs on this forum. You can use everything from a simple eyelet like used above, a closed eyelet from mcmaster (Better), or even a U-bolt with washers on the front and back (also better). My bungee has one hook cut off and it's looped back on itself and cinched together with a few zip ties. Had to replace the rope from chaffing but the bungee is fine.

Limiting ropes are stupid. I can't believe people sell these things...

i thought that i saw a post about you selling limiting straps?

i dont think that they are stupid if it is going to prevent the pole from extending too far, causing it to break something..

kevin stop being dumb. he does make limiting ropes and they are amazing. i have actually bent 3 eye bolt because his rope is so strong. he can make it to any length you want. totally recommend these lines.

ya Kevin just thinks hes too cool now because he leaves shoes and halves of ski at peoples house then moves off to the incredible Australia coast and makes the best limiting rope on the market.
damn sorry there goes that damn jealousy again. haha Hope everything is going good for you over there Kevin.

This is why the u-bolts and solid eyebolts are better... They don't bend or break. These are the fittings I have. http://www.mcmaster.com/#3100T12 for the pole and http://www.mcmaster.com/#8896T116 for the hull. Well worth the investment to never have to touch it. If you're going to go far enough to order an indestructible rope, you might as well order indestructible fittings as well.

I've spent hundreds of hours investing my time into limiting ropes, excuse my comedy act...

I've had access to a lot of expensive equipment and put my complete line to 5500 lbs. My biggest competitor only made it to 340lbs. I did a lot of testing in the rig shop as far as mounts and fittings go. The welded eyebolt is the weakest. The U-bolt is the strongest. The SS eyenut is 2nd strongest. The products that I wanted to associate with my lines were far too expensive and would end up being close to $70 at wholesale pricing. As far as mounting to the pole and dash goes, A SS u-bolt that is 1/4-1/2" proved to hold up well. With each increase in imperial measurement, the load went up by roughly 10%. Ex. 1/4" = 2000lbs, 5/16" = 2200 lbs.

However, there must be a weak point in the system. If everything is strong, the dash or pole will crack. I stand by what I have advertised.
None of you will break my limiting rope. Put your car under a crane and hook up the limiting rope, your car will be picked up no problem. Because the line is strong, its important to have weak mounts. The eyebolt is the weakest, but I run it. I would rather have that break then crack the dash of my 2011 ski.

Good setups:

KR Lines + Eyebolt = Balanced
Other lines + U bolt = Balanced

KR Lines + U bolt = Not balanced
Other Lines + Eyebolt = Not balanced

It just depends if you want a stronger line or stronger fittings. I dont mean to turn you away from others that make lines as well. Profound Dynamics and ATP make great setups and they are all complete if Im not mistaken.

how much are your lines? i dont think that i would spend any money that i wouldnt need to spend because i am not in the surf or anything like that.. just flatwater and sometimes we go out to lake ontario and we got some bigger waves.

i have a u bolt on the dash already, the hull was set up like that when i bought it.. im thinking a homemade one will do it for my kind of riding. 2012-04-11 17.49.37.jpg

A few years ago, I snapped my SN pole bracket, spring, and cracked my hull on flatwater because I had no intention of going big on flatwater yet. I did have an aluminum pole at least but I had a homemade limiting rope sitting in my garage that I was too lazy to install. Tmart snapped his RN pole last year on flatwater too. It only takes one screw up...

how would i make it.. i think that i am going to install a stainless eyebolt and try to make a strap, so i know that the rope goes from the dash to the pole, but where would the bungee go? and would that need to be a certain length?
